So tragic. A Las Vegas acrobat and mother of two tragically died in the middle of a live show after her she slipped out of her performance harness — and plunged to an open pit below.
Mother-of-two Sarah Guyard-Guillot, 31, horrifically fell to her death in front of a live audience during a performance of the Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show called Ka. The acrobat was being lifted up the side of a vertical stage towards the end of the show, when she fell out of her safety harness and plunged 50 feet.
Cirque du Soleil Performer Dies During Live Show
Witnesses say Sarah was being hoisted towards the ceiling when she suddenly fell to an open pit below. Audience members originally thought Sarah’s fall was part of the show, but quickly realized something was wrong.
“Initially, a lot of people in the audience thought it was part of the [show],” audience member Dan Mosqueda told the Las Vegas Sun. “But you could hear screaming, then groaning, and we could hear a female artist crying from the stage.”
The show, which was being held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 29, continued for a bit, but then abruptly stopped. An announcement was made informing audience members that they would receive a refund for their show. The Cirque du Soleil show Ka has been suspended until further notice.
Sarah Guyard-Guillot’s Death — ‘We Are All Completely Devestated’
Sarah had been a member of the Las Vegas show since 2006, and an acrobat for more than 20 years. Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte released a statement after Sarah’s tragic death.
Actress Nina Dobrev also showed her sympathy for the tragic death. She tweeted on June 30:
Shocked and saddened by the news of Cirque Du Soleil performer Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard’s death. My condolences go to her family.
What a tragedy. Our thoughts are with Sarah’s family during this difficult time.
