Cher may have initially said farewell to performing in 2005 but the legendary singer is back! In a new interview on the ‘Today’ show July 1, the singer opened up about the DOMA ruling, her son, and a special first time performance.
Much to our delight, Cher isn’t saying goodbye to performing just yet. On the Today show July 1, the singer and Oscar winner talked about an exciting upcoming performance that she may need a “stretcher” for! Say what?
Cher To Perform On ‘Today’ Show For First Time
In a interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie, Cher (in amazing leopard pajamas) revealed that even though she had her Farewell Tour end in 2005, this is not the end of her performing career. The singer made her first TV comeback in a decade on The Voice finale which she called “frightening” — and she isn’t stopping there.
Now, Cher is going to embark on another journey in her musical career with a new tour aptly titled Never Can Say Goodbye.
Savannah also teased, “You are getting up very early in September…” and Cher revealed that she will be performing live on the Today show for the first time September 23, just a day before the release of her upcoming album Closer to the Truth. After asking the singer what the Today show could provide for the performance, Cher jokingly said “A stretcher?” Let’s hope not, Cher!
Cher On DOMA Ruling & Daughter’s Transition
Cher also revealed her joy over the June 26 Supreme Court ruling that struck down a major provision of the Defense of Marriage Act that will now allow same sex couples to marry.
I thought it was amazing. I mean, it should never have been a law. It should never have been anything. It shouldn’t have been a thought.
The legendary pop star opened up about her daughter’s transgender transformation and how she still has some difficulty with her pronouns.
It was really difficult, because it’s hard for 40 something years to have this little girl and then all of a sudden and you get used to it. My pronouns, I just screw up with my pronouns so often. But Chaz, you know, cuts me some slack, I’m old.
Even after almost five decades in the music industry, this singing legend isn’t slowing down! We can’t wait for her upcoming tour!
