Hooray! June 26 is a historic day in the United States, as the Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act, meaning married gay couples will get the same benefits as straight couples.

On June 26, the Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, ruling that same-sex spouses legally married in a state may receive federal benefits. Same sex marriage is now legal again in California. This is such wonderful news, and celebrities such as President ObamaAlicia Keys, Lena Dunham, Kristen Bell and more have taken to Twitter to react.

Lisa Bloom Explains What DOMA Will Mean For Gay Couples

Lisa Bloom, a legal analyst, explained exactly how his new act will effect married same sex couples:

There is no question that this is a sweeping historic decision for gay rights.

Federal government must extend benefits to same sex partners the same as they would to heterosexual partners.

In the DOMA case there was also, under the federal law, states don’t have to recognize other states same sex marriages. That was not before the court on this DOMA decision, so that still remains, but I would expect that to be struck down in a further challenge.

Lisa was asked if the ban was unconstitutional, and she replied: “There are a lot of technical grounds the court could rule on in the prop 8 case.”

Would it be a contradiction if they didn’t strike down prop 8?

Lisa says “not necessarily.”

What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Are you glad to hear that DOMA was overruled?

Striking down DOMA does not legalize gay marriage, in general. I think you guys are confused and should stay with topics you are familiar with. Specifically, I don’t think gay marriage has been made legal in California. I think the Supreme Court tabled that. We are back to Civil Unions again. Back to the notion that if the benefits of Civil Unions and marriages are the same then it somehow makes them equal. That, however, it BS. It’s a Jim Crow Law. Brown Vs The Board Of Education. Seperate is not equal. Supreme Court took the easy way out. The cowardly way out.

You use a word like faggot, to be derogatory, but your good sensibilities allowed you to euphemize it?…and poorly at that. But not to worry Abe, being a die hard bigot is “wrong as hell” too. So I guess we’ll sin by being faggots and you can sin by being a hateful bigot and God can decide the rest. IDIOT
