Pepsi is partnering with reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year and Grammy nominated artist Blake Shelton to kick-off summer 2013 by inviting fans to join Pepsi for an “Iconic Summer” to remember. Find out all the amazing details!
With the launch of http://www.iconicsummer.com, Pepsi will offer consumers fun summer rewards and unparalleled access to great music and great summer events, including: Beyoncé’s The Mrs. Carter World Tour, the MTV Video Music Awards, the MLB All Star Game in NYC, the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam in Florida, and many more. “I am excited to be part of Pepsi’s Iconic Summer,” said Blake Shelton. “Music fans are the absolute best and I am looking forward to offering up some memorable opportunities to them during CMA’s Music Fest next month and throughout other events coming up. It truly will be an iconic summer.”
Blake will help the brand illustrate the program experience and encourage fans to participate for giveaways and prizes through his digital platforms and select in-person appearances. “This summer, Pepsi will invite consumers to make the most of the season,” said Angelique Krembs, Vice President, Marketing, Trademark Pepsi. “We’re excited to offer our fans so many opportunities to enhance their iconic summer experience.”
As part of this campaign, Pepsi unveiled plans to bring fans closer to their favorite country artists at this year’s CMA Music Festival in Nashville. Making the country fan experience truly iconic, Pepsi invited consumers to experience the CMT Music Awards on June 5 and they will also be able to experience the CMA Music Festival from June 6-9 in Nashville, TN. The week will include an appearance by Blake Shelton at the newly debuted Pepsi Fan Engagement Bus, artist meet-n-greets, and opportunities to win prizes and rewards.
To show off the spirit of red, white and blue, this summer Pepsi will encourage fans to share their iconic summer photos by uploading to http://www.pepsi.com/iconicsummermoments. These images will be curated by Pepsi to create unique content featured on its multi-media channels. For every photo that is submitted to http://www.pepsi.com/iconicsummermoments from May 26 to August 31, Pepsi will donate $1 to several charitable organizations, including a nonprofit dedicated to providing relief and aid to the victims of the recent tornado impacting the Oklahoma City area, as well as a select group of exceptional military affiliated charities.
Consumers who submit photos will automatically be entered into a contest for a chance to win amazing summertime experiences – which only Pepsi can provide.
Additionally, as part of the “Iconic Summer” rewards program, consumers will have an opportunity to make their summertime experiences iconic with a chance to win everyday rewards when they purchase specially marked 20oz, 2-Liter and multi-pack plastic bottles of Pepsi or Mountain Dew through an “Under the Cap” promotion that will unlock prizes.

Are you glad that your success has come now being older rather then being a teenage icon?
BS – “(Laughter) Yeah, I am glad. I am at the age now where I am 36-Years Old. hell, I’ll be 37 when the tour starts and i am at a point in my life where I can really appreciate his type of momentum and this type of success. I know how hard it is to get here and its almost impossible to get here. You need a lot of luck and momentum and timing and all of these things have to come together at once to get to this spot. But heel yeah, I am glad that I still have stuff to look forward to and I am not looking back at it.”
Concerning The Voice, you have a few contestants left which is a great achievement. How much do you think it is you since you are so well liked and how much is it your contestants actual talent?
BS – “I think it is in spite of me! (Laughter) I think its that because my team is so good! But honestly it is a combination I think with doing the right song at the right time. I’d like to say that it is all about me but I think I have been smarter in staying out of an artists way. If anyone tries out for the show and they are a country artist, why the hell would you want them to sing a pop song just to show that they can do it? It doesn’t represent anything about who they are or what they are about or what they want to do.”
“That is not the kind of story I want to build with my artists. I want the country music fan base to fall in love with them and not lose interest in them or be disappointed by them and what they are doing. And if I had a pop or rock artist, I would keep it as focused as I can and sometimes artists want to try some things and that is what makes them who they are as artists and i am all about that. But those decisions for the artists and it is my job to be the best at making them the best them they can be when they hit the stage!”
What is your technique about writing and creating songs? Is there anything special that you do?
BS – “The best thing for writing for me is the recording devices on our phones, because no matter where you are, you got your phones with you and a little melody or line pops in my head, I’ll sing it into that and luckily I have another cool device called Miranda Lambert that I can help start something and she can help me finish it! (Laughter) That helps a lot!”
Blake Shelton Makes Surprise Appearance!
On Friday June 7, Pepsi wowed fans when renown country music singer Blake Shelton made a surprise appearance at the Pepsi fan engagement bus at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN as part of the CMA Music Festival.
The surprise and delight event was hosted by YouTube all-stars, BFvsGF, who led fans in joining in on all the festivities and amazing giveaways taking place with Pepsi and Blake. Festival attendees and fans were split into two competing teams as part of the “Pepsi Speed Sketch.” 10 lucky fans started at the beginning of competition and 5 finalists emerged to then compete for the grand prize, joined by special guest Blake Shelton.
