The man accused of holding three Cleveland women hostage in his basement for over a decade has been indicted on over 300 counts, including rape, kidnapping and aggravated murder.
After being help captive for ten years, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were freed after Amanda miraculously escaped their captor’s home on May 6. Their accused kidnapper and sexual abuser, Ariel Castro, has been indicted by a grand jury for his horrific crimes.
Ariel Castro Indicted By Grand Jury On 329 Counts
A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury has indicted Ariel on 329 counts, according to WKYC. The accused kidnapper was indicted for one count of aggravated murder for beating Michelle to purposely cause her to miscarry.
Ariel was also indicted on 139 counts of rape, 177 counts of kidnapping, seven counts of gross sexual imposition, three counts of felonious assault, and one count of possession of criminal tools.
“Today’s indictments represent a first major step in the criminal justice process,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty told reporters. “Our investigation continues, and we will present our findings to the grand jury.”
Ariel will be arraigned on the charges next week, and a trial judge will be assigned to the case.
Amanda Berry Is Suffering From Nightmares
Although Amanda has been moving forward with her life since she escaped from Ariel’s home, it appears she’s suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
“Amanda’s having a terrible time,” her father tells RadarOnline.com. “She’s having nightmares every night, waking up screaming and crying, terrified that Castro is coming after her, or that she’s still a prisoner. She told me she’s afraid her freedom is a dream and she’s going to wake up to the horror of finding out she is still a prisoner.”
Hopefully Amanda and the other women will have some justice now that their captor is being charged for his horrific crimes.
