Amanda keeps telling everyone that she’s not crazy but since she’s allegedly been wandering around talking to herself, wearing crazy outfits, and scaring her neighbors, why hasn’t she been permanently taken to a mental hospital? HollywoodLife.com spoke to a top mental health expert who reveals why she hasn’t been locked away.
Amanda Bynes swears she hasn’t gone off the deep end but her behavior suggests otherwise. The main question on everyone’s mind, after her drug arrest on May 23, is: why hasn’t the court sent her away to a mental institution. HollywoodLife.com has the answer!
Amanda Bynes — Why She’s Not Committed
HollywoodLife.com spoke with Dr. Adi Jaffe, the co-founder of Alternatives Treatment Center in Beverly Hills, and he tells HollywoodLife.com that Amanda can’t be hospitalized against her will!
“Based on some of the information I’ve seen, Amanda might have been confined to a psychiatric facility for some time after the incident,” Dr. Jaffe says. “It’s important to note that such hospitalizations are temporary and that adults cannot be hospitalized against their will for periods that typically max out at 72 hours.”
Amanda was arrested on May 23, after the police were called to her Midtown Manhattan apartment. She was charged with having possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence and reckless endangerment and then taken to Roosevelt Hospital for an evaluation. But they didn’t keep her very long! We asked Dr. Jaffe what they did in the evaluation, and she says they mainly determined if she’s at risk of hurting herself or someone else.
“My guess is the first thing was to examine whether she’s at risk of harming herself or somebody else,” he says. “Hopefully some personality measures examining underline personality traits were administered, and finally some neuropsychiatric testing to evaluate for brain function in different areas.”
