Pro golfer Sergio Garcia made an incredibly racially offensive comment to fellow athlete Tiger Woods when he said he’d serve him “fried chicken” if he had him over for dinner. He later apologized in a statement — do YOU think that’s enough?

Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia are set to face off during the 2013 U.S. Open, but the Spanish pro golfer took the rivalry to a new extreme when he made a racially offensive comment towards Tiger at an awards dinner.

Sergio Garcia Says He’ll Serve Tiger Woods ‘Fried Chicken’

During the European Tour’s awards dinner on May 21, Sergio made a racist comment when someone asked him jokingly if he was going to have his rival Tiger over for dinner during the U.S. Open.

“We will have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken,” he said.

The racially-charged comment shocked attendees and the public after The Guardian published the remark, especially since Tiger’s dad is African American.

Sergio Garcia Apologizes For Fried Chicken Comment

After he made the statement, the Spanish golfer released a statement in which he apologized for the comments.

“I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players’ Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner,” Sergio said in a statement.

Sergio has acknowledged in the past that he and Tiger don’t get along, according to Fox News.

Even though his comments were offensive, we’re glad Sergio apologized.

What do YOU think of Sergio’s comments, HollywoodLifers? Do you think his apology is sincere?

There was a moment, just after Clapton finished a (relatively) rousing version of Cocaine, when every single person in the auditorium got up and surged towards the stage. Who knew one of the mildest shows imaginable could spur so much reckless dancing and wanton snogging among my elders. I’m actually really ashamed I didn’t join the surge, although I think the snogging would have been a step too far.My name is David Newton, professor of business studies. I’m an online tutor. Some of you may read that last sentence as a confession, rather than a simple statement of fact. Why? In my view, it is because C despite its growing popularity and valuable role in the future of higher education C is still a mystery to many in academia, and viewed with prejudice by some.

Philip developed this department according to his own ideas of what the study of archaeology should involve, rather than following any blueprint for an academic discipline. His course had a strong emphasis on practical archaeology and communication, Philip’s own key skills. Students went digging, and also learned how to present their findings, with mini lectures forming part of the final examination. York became a large and very successful archaeology department.

Long before the ‘superhatch’ concept ever really gained popularity there was the Audi S3. With over 200bhp being directed to each of its four wheels, chunky styling and a correspondingly chunky price tag, the S3 was somewhat overshadowed by the TT coupe at the time of its launch but soon established a reputation as the finest driver’s car Audi had produced since the iconic quattro 20v. Sales have been steady and there are a number of quality used examples available. Tough and capable, the S3 is one of the more reliable used buys amongst the hot hatch elite.

What is different about this problem for Gonzales, compared with his past troubles anyway, is that he is forced by his current position and by the tide of events to address and resolve the matter from center stage instead of from his usual spot in the back row.

In some sense, there’s rivalry, Logan reported. Only a couple of groups are specifically trained to that level for a high-value target mission like this. It’s the highest that you can go, and they spend most of the time, even once they’re qualified, they’re training over and over and over again, perfecting their techniques. They have to be able to prepare for anything that happens, and it’s a very high-stakes world that they live in and a very shadowy one. Their identities are particularly secret.

He meant what he said, he knows what that comment is connected with, it’s hurtful. I know plenty of minorities that love fried chicken more than blacks, please believe.

Being European Sergio, like myself and many others do not realise the connotations of the fried chicken reference. For me America is famous for two types of food, Burgers and fried chicken. Until today I never realised the racist connotations of the comment, Sergio did not mean any offense and the fact that both tours have said it was not meant with intent speaks volumes.

That “he is European” excuse is just that an excuse. I am neither American nor European and I know better to not make such a douche bag comment to someone of TW race. Sergio Garcia travels all over the world he must have some knowledge of the cultures and traditions of some of the countries he visits. Its not like he has lived in a cave from birth and is ignorant to the world outside

He is like all the other racists who get caught making racial remarks. It’s about time that we start seeing these racist for what they are and stop accepting pathetic apologies. I am convinced that his statement reflected how he truly felt about people of African decent.

why does everyone shove ‘being black’ down his throat? tiger is tiger, period. he isn’t black, he isn’t white, he isn’t fully asian… he’s a mix. i see his asian ancestry more than i see anything else- not that it matters. he is whatever he thinks he is, and who are you to tell him he’s supposed to be running around bubbling over with black pride. if he was on the golf course most of his life, he probably wasn’t spending much time with black people anyway— not sure what the numbers are now, but historically the golf course certainly isn’t known for having a large non-white population. just let the guy be what he wants to be for crying out loud.

With all of the huge named people that have been terminated or censored for the same type of racial slurs or comment(S). An apology is not acceptable. He (Sergio) should be sanctioned for his comments. by being banned from the PGA forever. He is supposed to be a professional athlete that our society tends to place higher then they should be. He is also sending the wrong message for our children. A message that says this type of behavior will be mad right as long as your sorry.
