Ray co-founded ‘The Doors’ with Jim Morrison in 1965 and after a long battle with bile duct cancer, he died on May 20.
Ray Manzarek has passed away. The Doors posted a message on their official Facebook page and said that they are “deeply saddened” with the news.
The Doors Keyboardist Ray Manzarek Dies After Cancer Battle
Ray died at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany on May 20. He was 74-years-old and he was with his wife Dorothy and brothers Rick and James.
Ray’s bandmate Robby Krieger said that he was very upset with the news.
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. I’m just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.”
The Doors became one of the top and most controversial rock bands of the 60s. They sold more than 100 million albums, and received 19 Gold, 14 Platinum, five multi-Platinum albums.
