Brad aided Angelina through three months of medical procedures by finding ‘moments to laugh together.’ We’re so glad Angie has such a loving and supportive partner.
Undergoing a double mastectomy would be scary to anyone, but Angelina Jolie had Brad Pitt by her side, every step of the way, and it brought them “closer” together. The actress made the courageous decision to have a double mastectomy after learning she had an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer. Her mom, Marcheline Bertrand, lost a brave battle with cancer in 2007, so Angelina wanted to do everything she could to guarantee a long life with Brad and their six children.
Angelina Jolie’s Double Mastectomy — Brad Pitt Supports Her
“I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition. Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries. We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has,” Angelina wrote in her op-ed piece, published in the New York Times on May 14.
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith actress says that tests found she had a “faulty gene,” known as BRCA1. Doctors gave her an 87 percent risk of getting breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of getting ovarian cancer. It was then that she decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much she could. She did this by undergoing a double mastectomy earlier this year.
Celebrities React On Twitter
And Brad isn’t the only one supporting Angelina. Giuliana Rancic, who also underwent a double mastectomy in 2011, tweeted on May 14, “Angelina Jolie reveals double mastectomy. Proud of her for using her incredible platform to educate women.”
Sheryl Crow wrote: “I commend Angelina Jolie for her courage and thoughtfulness in sharing her story today regarding her mastectomy. So brave! Ladies, please check out Angelina Jolie’s story today, especially if you have breast cancer in your family history.”
Elizabeth Banks said: “Much respect & for sharing in classy way: Angelina Jolie on why she had a double mastectomy & how it can save lives.”
