The Philadelphia abortion doctor was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder in the horrific deaths of babies born alive at his abortion clinic, but were later killed after he snipped their necks with scissors. He was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of one of his patients.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, was found guilty on May 13 on three first-degree murder charges in the deaths of babies who were born alive and later killed at his rundown abortion clinic in a West Philadelphia neighborhood.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell Found Guilty Of Three Counts Of First-Degree Murder
Authorities claim some of the infants born alive at Dr. Gosnell’s clinic were as far as six, seven or eight months along. Dr. Gosnell, who is not a board-certified obstetrician or gynecologist, is convicted of killing the infants who were born alive by snipping their necks with scissors.
The first-degree murder charges mean that Dr. Gosnell could be sentenced to the death penalty.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell Found Guilty Of Involuntary Manslaughter
He was also found guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of one of his patients, Karnamaya Mongar, 41. She died after receiving an overdose of anesthesia while undergoing a second-trimester abortion.
Dr. Gosnell was also accused of allegedly performing hundreds of illegal late-term abortions — in Pennsylvania, it is against the law to perform an abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy. In those counts, he was found guilty of 21 counts of late-term abortions 24 weeks or older.
