The couple’s ‘inevitable’ breakup will in no way alter Damon & Elena’s future together, sources confirm.
Vampire Diaries fans all over the world were bummed May 9 when news broke that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev had decided to end their relationship after several years. Fortunately, multiple sources insist that the couple’s off-screen breakup will have absolutely no negative affect on their characters’ on-screen futures.
Ian, 34, and Nina, 24, going their separate ways will have absolutely no affect on their story lines next season, a source tells Zap2it.
In addition, another source tells Us Weekly that Ian and Nina are “consummate professionals.” The duo “will continue to work together and remain best friends.”
Nina & Ian’s Split Was Amicable, Yet ‘Inevitable’
A source close to the former couple tells Us Weekly it was only a matter of time before Ian and Nina decided to call it quits, especially considering how the co-stars got together in the first place.
“The relationship kind of brewed out of a friendship and the fact that they had to get into a romance for the show,” the source explains. Ian and Nina’s split is considered, by that source, to have been “inevitable.”
Ian Somerhalder Staying Focused After Split
While we’re sure Ian’s bummed about being suddenly single, he’s not letting that get in the way of doing what he does best: saving the world!
The day after the news broke, Ian was in Belgium — and on Twitter — conducting a live Q&A with fans for Cree, an LED lightbulb manufacturer.
