Demi will debut her new blonde hair on TV on the May 13 episode of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ — during the episode she admits her frequent color changes are because she’s bipolar! Can you believe she said that?

Demi Lovato, 20, has had every hair color under the sun — black, red and most recently blonde. On May 6, Demi tweeted: “Almost didn’t make it through airport security!! I look SO different from my driver’s license!! Hahaha #blondehairdon’tcare.” Keep reading to see what Demi said to Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show.

Ellen asked Demi if there was something different about her: “Am I wrong in remembering that you’re hair was a lot darker than this last time you were here?”

“It was a lot darker than this like last week,” Demi laughed.

“And you just felt like changing?” Ellen asked. “I do this often… as you’ve heard I’m Bipolar. So I change my hair a lot,” Demi replied.

“I didn’t know you were Bipolar… so how often do you change you’re hair. What colors have you had?” Ellen asked her.

Demi told her: “I’ve had black, brunette, red, like orangey red, pink, and blue.”

Demi Lovato’s Bipolar Disorder & Rehab Stint

Demi checked herself into rehab in November 2010 for an eating disorder, bipolar disorder and self-harming issues. Do you think she should have mentioned her diagnosis when she was talking about her hair?

Part of ending the stigma of mental illness is being able to be open about it. It doesn’t define her it’s just a part of who she is and it sometimes causes impulsive behavior. This can be a positive thing, at least she’s not afraid of trying new things. I wonder if she had any other disease like cancer which can change people’s appearance would anyone even question her mentioning it?
