Rick Sanchez was in friend Ariel Castro’s Cleveland, Ohio home four days before Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight escaped. He recalls the scary sights he saw in a new interview.
Rick Sanchez says he was inside Ariel Castro’s home, before Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight escaped, but he never picked up a hint of the home’s hidden dungeon and the captured women inside. However, now that the crime has been revealed, he does remember a few outlandish details about the home.
Ariel Castro Hid Women — Friend Recalls House Of Horrors
“It’s amazing to me how he had these girls under control,” Rick said, according to the New York Daily News.
Rick says he bonded with Ariel over their shared love of music. Rick, 44, even cooked breakfast for Ariel once, acknowledging that the women were probably close in proximity. “I’m sure they heard me,” he said of the women.
Rick says he’s been in the home several times over the years and he even “heard deep thumping noises from the walls.” However, Ariel said the noises were from his dogs.
Rick was there on May 2 and first visited in 2001. He said he met Amanda’s daughter, Jocelyn, on May 2, but Ariel said it was his granddaughter. It’s been confirmed that Amanda’s daughter is Ariel’s as well.
Each exterior door in the house was fitted with six deadbolt locks, a security system that even had Rick seeking help to get out.
Rick recalls that he saw a trashed living room and a broken bed frame, but had no idea what was going on in the two-story torture chamber. “He was a great actor,” Rick said. “He was lying to everyone.”
