Chris Kelly Funeral — Mourners Pay Respects To Kris Kross Rapper
Several members of Xscape, who belong to the same record label as Kris Kross, Chris Smith, Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat were among those who gathered for the ceremony.
“He will be very missed, especially within our family,” Chris’ uncle Lemar Williams said outside the Murray Brothers Funeral Home, Billboard reports. “To the world he was Kris Kross, but to us he was just Chris.”
Kelly, who was also known as “Mac Daddy,” performed alongside Chris Smith, also known as “Daddy Mac” — they performed together, as the rap duo Kris Kross. The duo, founded by Jermaine Dupri, wore their pants backward as a gimmick, but won over fans with their raps. Their most notable song was 1992’s “Jump.”
Chris Kelly Dies At 34 From Possible Overdose
Chris was pronounced dead at the Atlanta Medical Center at around 5:30 p.m. on May 1 after his body was found unresponsive.
According to his mother, it’s likely that a combination of cocaine and heroin was a main factor in the rapper’s death. She said that Chris had been doing a mixture of the two drugs the night before his death and he had an “extensive history of drug use.”
Our thoughts continue to be with his mother, his family and friends in this difficult time.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Was this the best way to pay respects to Chris Kelly?
