Since the three women escaped captivity on May 6, after ten years, they’ve been reuniting with family. Amanda Berry arrived at her sister’s home on May 8. She was expected to make a statement today, but her sister spoke instead.
Beth Serrano, Amanda’s sister, stood before the huge crowd of reporters and photographers and asked that they give the family privacy to recover, according to CNN.
“I just want to say we are so happy to have Amanda and her daughter home,” Beth said. “I want to thank the public and the media for their support and encouragement over the years. At this time, our family would request privacy so my sister, niece and I have time to recover. We appreciate all you have done from us throughout the past ten years. Please respect our privacy until we are ready to make our statement, thank you.”
Jaycee Dugard, who was abducted at age 11 and held captive for 18 years insisted that the women need time to “heal.”
“These individuals need the opportunity to heal and connect back into the world. This isn’t who they are. It is only what happened to them,” Jaycee, 29, told PEOPLEin a statement.
She added, “The human spirit is incredibly resilient. More then ever this reaffirms we should never give up hope.”
Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were being held captive the basement of a Cleveland, Ohio home for ten years. They were rescued on May 6 after a neighbor heard Amanda’s cries for help.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should Amanda give a statement?
