It’s derby time y’all! May 4 is the day for mint juleps, big hats, and fast horses, and you know celebrities are just excited about the Kentucky Derby as anyone else. Keep reading to see what they all had to say!

The 139th annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 4 promises to be an incredible sporting event. That’s because with its blend of fast and exciting racing and celebrity glamour, it’s an affair unlike any other. Tons of celebs were getting amped up for the big day, and even picking their favorite horses!

2013 Kentucky Derby: Celebs Prepare For The Event

Jennifer Hudson showed all her fans her excitement, hopping on Twitter to say, “Derby time … Ladies where’s your hat!!!” Miranda Lambert was similarly enthused, sending out the tweet, “Party time! Texas has arrived in Kentucky #countrycomestotown #Derby.”

A few other celebs were posting their Derby style looks ahead of time. Fashion model Coca Rocha tweeted a pic of herself in a dress by Zac Posen and a huge hat by Philip Treacy. “Ready for my first day at the Kentucky #Derby,” she tweeted.

Other celebs were just happy to be attending the event. Arrow’s Stephen Amell was definitely ready to get the party started, messaging, “Me and 4 buddies are heading to the Kentucky Derby. #Bourbon #NoSocks.” 

Lauren Conrad tweeted, “Off to Kentucky tomorrow for the Derby! So excited!” along with a picture of her cute luggage.

Shaquille O’Neal was hanging with a star-studded group of Robert Griffin III and Anthony Anderson. “HAPPY DERBY DAY,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Lance Bass — who’s celebrating Derby Day and his birthday — tweeted a humorous picture of himself with a toy horse and the caption, “Found my pick for #TheDerby !!!”

The king, Larry King, actually announced his picks for the race: “I like two horses in the Kentucky Derby – Orb & Goldencents – if you want a long shot give a look at Oxbow.” Thanks for the tips, Larry!

The Kentucky Derby is an amazing affair — it’s so much more than just the two minutes those thoroughbred horses run. It’s all about the event!
