How mean! A CBS blogger called out an NBA cheerleader for being ‘too chunky’ in an insensitive article. Readers, both male and female, are outraged over the rude story and want the writer fired. Do YOU agree that she should be fired?
Sports blogger Anna-Megan Raley should have thought twice before writing a judgmental and senseless article about NBA Oklahoma City Thunder cheerleader Kelsey Williams being overweight.
Anna-Megan, who goes by the pen name of “Claire Crawford,” is being called out for what many people are calling “a hateful attack.” The CBS Houston blogger wrote:
“[Mrs Williams] has been criticized by some folks in [Oklahoma] for having ‘pudginess’ around her waistline… Is this chick “too chunky” to be a cheerleader?”
The post, which has now been taken down by the CBS Houston website, asked readers to participate in a poll which asked: “She has the perfect look to be an NBA cheerleader,” or “She could use some tightening up in her midsection,” and finally, “She has no business wearing that outfit in front of people.”
Angry readers have been sharing their thoughts. One reader commented, “‘It’s a hateful attack on a beautiful, talented, motivated woman, and articles like this contribute to the degradation of society, as well as the negative body image so many women struggle…”
Coincidentally, Anna-Megan once wrote a blog about trying out to be a cheerleader.
Why would anyone, especially a woman, write such a mean story that damages a young girl’s self confidence? It’s refreshing to see so many people stick up for the innocent cheerleader, and call the blogger out on her immaturity and ignorance.
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers, should blogger Anna-Megan be fired?
