The widow of accused Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsanraev insists that she had no knowledge of his deadly terrorist plot. After expressing her deep sympathy for the victims, Katherine is focused on raising her daughter out of the public eye.
After learning the devastating news that her husband Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been involved in the deadly Boston Marathon bombing, Katherine Russell, his widow, revealed she was shocked and saddened by her slain husband’s terrorist attack. The 24-year-old is now protecting her privacy — and focusing on raising their daughter Zahara, 3.
Katherine Russell Focused On Being A Mom
Katherine’s lawyer, Amato DeLuca, told CNN the young widow had no idea of her husband’s involvement in the terrorist plot and bombing — even when he took a six-month trip to Chechnya and Russia in February, 2012.
Amato says he understands why authorities would need to ask Katherine about that trip, in which feds believe he was radicalized by Islamic terrorists.
“She understands the need for doing it. It’s a threat to national security, and she gets that,” Amato said. “Katy’s just trying to raise her daughter.”
Katherine has not spoken to the FBI just yet, but her lawyer maintains that she had been too busy working — up to 80 hours a week some weeks — and taking care of her daughter to know about the deadly attack.
Katherine Russell’s Public Statement About The Boston Bombing
Official statement from the law firm of Deluca and Weizenbaum on behalf of Katherine Russell:
“Our firm is representing Katherine Russell and she has asked us to make a short statement. As you know from news reports, Katie married her husband in June of 2010. Since then, she has been living in Cambridge, raising her child and working long hours, caring for people in their homes who are unable to care for themselves. Katie grew up in Rhode Island and has always remained close to her parents and sisters here, as well as her extended family. She is fortunate to have the support of her loving family now, as they, too, struggle to come to terms with these events and the deep sorrow we all feel following the events of last week. Meanwhile, she is doing everything she can to assist with the investigation.
The injuries and loss of life – to people who came to celebrate a race and a holiday – has caused profound distress and sorrow to Katie and her family. The reports of involvement by her husband and brother-in-law came as an absolute shock to them all. As a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, Katie deeply mourns the pain and loss to innocent victims – students, law enforcement, families and our community. In the aftermath of this tragedy, she, her daughter and her family are trying to come to terms with these events. Thank you.”
Tamerlan is believed to be the mastermind behind the deadly April 15 Boston Marathon terrorist attacks, in which he and brother Dzhokhar Tamerlan allegedly placed two bombs near the finish line of the race. The explosions killed three and injured 176. Tamerlan was killed on April 19 after engaging in gunfire with police.
What do YOU think of Katherine focusing on raising her daughter, HollyMoms? Do you think she should stay out of the public eye?
