Which Salvatore will Elena end up with? And who will get the cure? EP Julie Plec spills major season finale secrets!
The Vampire Diaries‘ allegedly dormant love triangle between Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) appeared to be rekindled during the show’s April 18 prom episode — and according to executive producer Julie Plec, the rekindling has only just begun! The May 16 finale will introduce a new twist to the triangle, and Julie says it’ll make things very interesting for the trio in season five.
“We will know, when the finale is over, where everyone stands in the context of the Stefan/Damon/Elena triangle,” Julie tells HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine. “It will definitely set all three of them on a very different and interesting path when we move forward. … When all is said and done, it’s got some pretty good romantic moments.”
Of course, there’s a good chance Elena’s decision will be swayed by whomever ends up taking the vampire cure, which Julie promises will happen before the episode’s final moments.
Who Will Get The Cure?
Julie teases that “the implications of [who takes the cure] will be a great story to tell next year.”
The whole “next year” part of Julie’s quote makes me think it isn’t going to be anyone leaving Mystic Falls for The Originals — that’s Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) — which leaves the main trio, and Caroline (Candice Accola).
As for who might be dying on the finale, Julie says, “I cannot comment on permanent deaths, but I will say there will be lots of destruction.”
That’s good enough for me!
