Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect, was married to a 24-year-old American woman and had a 3-year-old daughter. His wife’s family issued an emotional statement after learning Tamerlan was a suspect in the attacks.
After Chechen bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with the police, he left behind a wife, Katherine Russell, and a young daughter, Zahara. After learning that their daughter’s husband was responsible for the terrorist attacks, Katherine’s family was outraged.
Katherine Russell’s Family Releases Statement
On April 19, Katherine’s family released a statement:
“Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot’s Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted. Please respect our family’s privacy during this time.”
Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Family: Leaves Behind Wife & Daughter
Before the terrorist attack, Tamerlan lived a seemingly normal life with Katherine and their three-year-old daughter. A neighbor tells MailOnline that Katherine converted to Islam for her husband.
“I knew she was married and she had converted to Islam,” the neighbor says. “She went away to college about three or four years ago, and I saw her a year later and she was dressed in the Islamic style. Her hair was covered and she was wearing very baggy, flowy clothing.”
The neighbor adds, “She moved back home and was living at home with the baby. I never saw him again, I thought maybe he’s gone away or he’s busy with school.”
