In the wake of Shain’s tragic death, MTV producers decided to pull the plug on ‘Buckwild’ — find out the reason behind the cancellation!
On April 1, Buckwild star Shain Gandee was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his Ford Bronco in a ravine near his West Virginia home. When Shain’s sudden death happened, MTV producers were already in the process of shooting the second season of the reality series. On April 10, the network announced that they “will not be moving forward” with production of Buckwild.
The Real Reason ‘Buckwild’ Was Cancelled
Although it’s clear the cancellation was because of Shain’s death, an insider gives Us Weekly a little more insight on the situation.
“It would have taken a morbid turn,” the source explains. “People loved Shain. He was the show’s star.”
Although the producers felt it was best to cancel the show, the cast disagreed. Shain’s costar Katie Saria tweeted, “Shain would be so pissed.”
Charleston Mayor: ‘Buckwild’ Should Be Cancelled
MTV producers weren’t the only ones who thought the show should be cancelled, Mayor Danny Jones of Charleston, West Virginia also agreed. Before the network announced the cancellation, the mayor voiced his feelings about the issue.
“Of the few cast members on the show already two have had legal issues and now one has died. The show only enhances the negative stereotype the Kanawha Valley already has. I hope the show’s life is short,” the mayor told TMZ.
