Shakira Was Right To Use Both Steals On Night One Of Battle Rounds

The Voice Shakira Steals

Shakira had a tough time snagging the top singers from her fellow judges during the first few battle rounds. However, she ended up with amazing talent after using both of her steals right away!

Shakira is not holding back! April 15 was only night one of the battle rounds, but The Voice‘s new judge had no problem snatching up two amazingly talented women that could win her the season.

Shakira Captures Top Talent With Steals

I’ve got to applaud Shakira. While judges usually are very careful with their steals, Shakira knew what she wanted and went after it — and on night one, no less.

“Some of my new steals are really keeping me happy,” she said in an interview with NBC after her two steals. “They’re the contestants that I had in mind, and I was able to get them, so I’m happy!”

Her first steal went to Sasha Allen, who captured my heart too when she sang “Not Ready To Make Nice” in the blind auditions. However, she chose Adam over Shakira — and the other three judges.

But in the battle rounds, Adam Levine chose Amber Carrington over Sasha, 30, and Shakira wasn’t the only one who attempted to steal her! Usher pushed his button to try and steal her away too, and then he basically cried after she chose Shakira.

It was a power play, no doubt. Sasha is one of the most talented singers — if not the most — on the show, and she will absolutely go far.

It’s A Woman’s World

The last performance of the night wowed everyone: Judith Hill went head-to-head with Karina Iglesias, singing a powerful rendition of “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” Team Adam picked Judith, giving Shakira the opportunity to grab Karina, a latina singer she regretted not picking from the start.

“Not turning for Karina in the blind auditions has been haunting me!” Shakira said. Well, if it’s been haunting you, then good for you for picking her. Karina’s raspy powerful voice could not have been passed up, and although there wasn’t room on Adam’s team for all the talent he snatched up, there is team on Shakira’s.

Sure, she used both her steals in the first episode, but they weren’t wasted on average singers; both Karina and Sasha were judge and fan favorites, and both singers will definitely get far in the competition.

Shakira wasn’t picked by some of the huge stars that she turned around for, but now with these steals, she’s really back in the game and proving to be a great coach right in the beginning. I’d say she’s one to watch!

Team Adam seemed most powerful after the blind auditions, but after he pinned his best singers against each other right off the bat, his team is now half as talented, and I think the power has shifted to Shakira’s hands.

The Steal is a really cool feature of The Voice, and I agree that Shakira was smart about her two slots. There’s so much talent in the battle rounds, and people like Caroline definitely deserve to stay. I work at DISH with a lot of buddies who watch The Voice, too, so we usually gossip about the contestants and who did well during our Tuesday and Wednesday lunch breaks. I’m usually not even back to my house yet when the episodes air on Tuesday nights, so I watch them on my phone with my DISH Anywhere app. It’s nice to be able to watch live or recorded TV from anywhere. I don’t think I’ll ever fall behind with my lineup again.
