Interesting…..I just thought it was a hot mess not culturally inappropriate. I’m still trying to figure out what on earth she was doing. She should stick to acting because singing and dancing are not for her.

unfortunatley this is how we as society have become criticizing everything. and people think this is offensive? i find the issue with bieber in the ann frank museum more offensive than this. i find people wearing fur offensive but this was just a performance. she will get it right next time. im sure but i think the only ones who should be offended are the erderly indian people not the young generation most of them dont live in india. most are leaving the easy life here in the us.

GET OVER IT if anything u should be flattered that such a talented and beautiful girl did that. It SHOULD be flattering but all you haters just have to find reasons to call her out for things that no one even cares about

Please, let’s all be realistic here. No matter how much you may adore Selena because she is pretty and nice, the girl can not sing her way out of a paper bag. Sorry. When will she be done with her few minutes of fame. Not nearly as deserving as so many other talented young people. She needs to beg JB to take her back, as she will noot go far on talent alone. And, way to stereotype and sexploit asian ladies Selena.

Gwen stefani did this look with No Doubt. Hilary Duff did same look with Stranger, Mandy Moore did this look with In My Pocket, Britney Spears did this look on her Circus Tour during the song, Me Against the Music. Why is Selena getting all the critism? Oh wait this is Hollywood Life, y’all are always dragging Selena’s name through the dirt.

I Didnt find it ofensive but is it just me or did she sound AWFUL. She was barley singing (backtrack) and when she was it was so bad! Why does this girl have a recording contract! Please Selena, stick to acting, where your true talent is! AND DO THE WORLD A FAVOR AND STOP SINGING LIVE.

WTF!!!!! People are so stupid these days. They find the stupidest things to slam about people. It was just a dance. If her fans didn’t like it then they aren’t her true fans. I may not like Selena as much as I used to but I still support her.

It is stupid how politically correct we are becoming. I have never seen more oversensitive people in my years living here-people get upset over anything-Bieber over Anne Frank, Harry over this and that, Selena over the way she dressed-it’s ridiculous!

i dont get it. why they slam the performance if it was so cultural insensitive when the song is been out for more than a week. the song is clearly has bollywood influence but why the hindu or indian community didn’t say anything about the song.

“why they slam the performance if it was so cultural insensitive when the song is been out for more than a week.”
Actually, they were discussing the song when it came out. Some thought the addition of the Hindi music wasn’t in and of itself bad, but the performance was essentially ‘dressing up as a generic Asian stereotype’ which, whilst it may seem innocent and probably had benign intentions, has a long history of racism behind it and often flattens a rich multitude of cultures into a rather offensive mess. (Also, the heavy past of sexualising and exotification of Asian women – note the ‘sexy harem girl’ theme going through here – can’t be ignored.)
‘Arabian nights’ theme but with the use of bindis and a South Asian music sample – several entirely different cultures being treated as one.
