PSY’s Music Video Accused Of Being Abusive To Women — Is It Sexist?

On April 13, the ‘Gangnam Style’ singer took the music world by storm again when he released his video for ‘Gentleman.’ However, the video is getting quite a bit of backlash!

PSY definitely knows how to make a music video — his first hit “Gangnam Style” has over one billion views on YouTube. Unfortunately, the video for “Gentleman” seems to be too controversial for a number of fans, as many feel it’s disrespectful toward women.

PSY ‘Gentleman’ Music Video Causes An Uproar

The music video for “Gentleman” surprised viewers when it premiered on April 13, but not in a good way.

Viewers took to Twitter to express their feelings about the new song, and many were saying that it’s offensive to women.

“PSY’s new dance move looks like Michael Jackson‘s Thriller. This music video is also super sexist. #gentleman,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Other tweets included:

“Is it just me or is the video for PSY’s Gentleman all about abusing women?”

“The title is not Psy – Gentleman … but should be Psy – Women Manipulation.”

Ouch! In his defense, the irony is funny! The song was titled “Gentleman,” and the video was filled with PSY and co. doing various activities that were the opposite of gentlemanly — like pulling out a chair from underneath a girl and turning up the treadmill while a girl was running on it until she fell off.

At the end, he found the one girl who could put up with his crazy fun ways and even be playful back!

We totally get the irony and find it funny, but was it too much?

PSY Gets Some Positive Feedback

While “Gentleman’s” music video isn’t a favorite among fans, that doesn’t mean people didn’t watch!

The video got over 20 million views in the first 24 hours it was out, breaking the record for views in one day on YouTube. The record was previously set at eight million by Justin Bieber‘s “Boyfriend.”

“51 million views in 40 hours!! My God~!!!” PSY tweeted in the early hours of Monday, April 15.

The video is now up to 58 million views on YouTube, and is no. 21 on the Top 100 Singles Chart on iTunes.

Watch the video below and let us know if YOU think the video is sexist! Or do you think it’s all in good fun?

Did anybody think that maybe none of the women in the video know how to make sandwiches? People need to get a sense of humor.

Wow, this article writer does not know a thing about Psy and his songs. Psy’s making fun of the “gentleman” by playing a prick himself in the video. That’s why it is titled, “Gentleman”. The new dance move is not that of Michael Jackson. The female performer’s name is Son, Ga-in. She is a member of a Kpop group named “Brown Eyed Girls”, and Psy does their dance move seen in “Abracadabra”.

Contrary to popular belief, not all of us have dark gold complexions, “standard” figures, or double lids.
My sister naturally looks like most of the girls in the video, and she is gorgeous, thank you very much.
My double lids never show up unless I’m super tired, so most of the time you’d never see them. I bet you’d lecture me about being natural. I wear sunscreen SPF 55(by Shiseido if anyone cares) most of the time, so I’m rather pale most of the time. I prefer to not get leather skinned anytime soon.
I do like the reddish tints that the sun gives black hair, so I don’t wear a hat. Again, you’d lecture me on being natural.
My family is all super skinny, and range from pale gold to traditional dark golden complexions. Our hair colours vary based on sun exposure and swimming. But apparently we are fake, or non-existent Koreans, so feel free to ignore this, because we obviously do not exist.
Like anywhere, there are different body types and attitudes toward such. We never had morbidly thick builds until fast food was introduced. I rather like being healthy. Never realised it was being fake.

Oh, and it’s funny how your screen name is in Korean, yet you are totally ignorant on how a lot of us really are. Please stop trying to represent all of us Koreans. It only makes you look foolish.

To the random few who might perceive this as sexist, he is, very much like in Gangnam Style, parodying a set type of folks.

Agree or disagree, as always it’s…

Just my 2cp, ne?

Ur Korean, how awesome, i am not but i just love…Koreans and u don’t see any here, so yeah…
Oh, but just to inform u, that ppl didn’t start getting fat from fast food, it’s actually in our DNA on how our body types will be like how ppl get big breast or a big butt, or be curvy or thin.., we can’t control that, BUT ppl have been overwieght before fast foods, it just wasn’t anything huge, becuz ppl were more active then…so yeah…but my family when they were young they were all skinny and had big butts, but i mean i am medium sized, and i don’t think it’s becuz of fast food, lol…

I am Korean, and no, the women in the video are not plastic looking, nor have they had their skin bleached, Korean women are naturally fair .They just use a ton of sunscreen, as they fear wrinkles and age spots. The girls are not thin, compared to other Korean women. Korean women are as skinny as they get, we simply do not eat. I am 160cm tall and I have a 23inch waist and my mother always scolds me for being fat. That is how Korea is. Department stores carry only two sizes. Small and extra small.

It may also shows how some men today are not being gentlemen to girls, how they treated girls and that’s not suppose to happen, and for women we should be strong enough to defend our rights, it’s just that in the video it is portrayed in a funny way though

Screw psy, that man needs to go back to korea. Americans need to understand what people sing about, but instead they sing it and don’t know what they’re saying. Obama is praising this racist little prick who once sang about killing OUR soldiers families. America needs to wake up, I do consider myself american since I was born in canada and moved here, but this is just a shame :(

By the way Don’t put him in the rap category you just make yourself look dumb.

Not at all i think if you don’t like listening to an artist you always have the option of turning, and Psy is not as good as other Korean artist but i mean screw him, what did he do to u.
And how is Obama praising him, i mean he never danced to Psy and maybe i should inform u before you go becuz i hate leaving ppl ignorant…. The president’s job is not look or watch stupid videos like Psy his job is to make laws and be an head for America, he doesn’t care for Psy unless he was talking about killing someone, and i mean i think u got the lyrics wrong becuz i read them and i didn’t get anything like that across.
you really know nothing about America, i think u should go back to Canda!(now does that sound nice when i say it out of my mouth?)

He’s mad about the iraq wars. He should be mad at America’s leaders instead of the soldiers fighting it. My uncle lost his leg in operation desert storm but he didn’t hate the soldiers, he hated the leaders. IMO so people don’t get mad I think PSY should be thankful for the U.S. because if it wasn’t for them they might be Korea. Don’t hate the player hate the game. Beforesomeone rages this is my opinion.

It’s a video and if anyone watched it long enough they’d see he meets a girl who does the same to him. It’s just a video…
