At least two more explosive devices have been found near the scene of the Boston marathon explosions, detonated on April 15. Police suspect these three bombings, including a newly reported explosion at JFK Library, may be acts of terrorism. At least 64 people were injured and two have been reported dead.
Following Boston’s horrific bombings on April 15, new devices are currently being dismantled after they were found inside Boston’s Mandarin and Lenox hotels. It’s unclear what these devices may be, but they’re believed to be explosives.
Boston Marathon Bombs Found
The Boston Globe tweeted, “UPDATE: Intelligence official: 2 more explosive devices found at Boston Marathon; being dismantled,” which was reported by Associated Press.
The motive behind these bombings is not clear, but police are citing a possible terrorist attack. It is an ongoing investigation.
The Braintree Police tweeted on April 15, “Explosion at finish. Walking with group. Complete Choas. Possible terrorist attack. 2 explo. 671 Boylston St outside the Boston Public Library-Large crime scene being established-MCI being declared. Numerous serious injuries.”
At least 64 people were injured, including children, and two have been reported dead as a result of these horrific explosions that occurred during the final line of the Boston marathon on April 15. The first two explosions were reported to have gone off at Copley Square, in downtown Boston, and a third occurred at JFK Library.
Boston police commissioner Ed Davis said:
“Simultaneous explosions occurred 50-100 yards apart. Each scene resulted in multiple casualties. We have sent officers to hospitals to be in touch with family members. We immediately activated a system of response. We have, at this point in time, determined that there has been a third incident that has occurred at JFK Library. We are not certain these incidents are related, but we are treating them like they are. We want to make sure we completely stabilize the situation. If anyone saw anything at this incident, they should call us at 1-800-494-tips.”
All flights in and out of Boston have been grounded and cell phone service has been shut down.
President Obama’s Press Conference
President Obama addressed the nation three hours after the explosions. He said:
Earlier today, I was briefed by my homeland security team about the events in Boston. Increase security around the U.S. as necessary and investigate as necessary. Michelle and I send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the victims. We don’t yet have all the answers. I’ve spoken to the FBI director. They are mobilizing the appropriate resources. We are Americans united and concerned for our fellow citizens. They have every single federal resource necessary. All Americans stand with the people of Boston. It’s a reminder that so many Americans serve and sacrifice on our behalf every day. We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts. But make no mistake, we will find out who did this. Any responsible groups will find the full weight of justice. It’s a day that draws the world to Boston streets in the spirit of friendly competition. I’m supremely confident Bostonians will come together. We can anticipate that as we get information, our teams will give briefings. We will find out who did this and we will hold them accountable.
