Ellen DeGeneres made the big announcement April 2 on Instagram.

Before I begin, let me make one thing clear: This is not an April Fool’s joke! “It’s official,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted April 2, along with an Instagram of the title card for the Finding Nemo sequel, which we now know will be called Finding Dory!

Disney immediately confirmed Ellen’s tweet with a press release.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” Ellen said in the statement. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16. But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

‘Finding Dory’ Plot Revealed

We never really knew why Dory was all alone when she first encountered Marlin in the original movie, and that’s exactly the kind of plot hole Finding Dory will fill. The sequel takes place one year after Finding Nemo, according to director Andrew Stanton, and will feature many of the characters you loved from the first movie — including the “Tank Gang!”

Several new characters will also introduced, all of which “will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.”

Rumors of a Finding Nemo sequel first began circulating in July 2012, along with a supposed Toy Story 4.
