The ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Girls’ actress welcomed her first child on March 23 with fiancé Jon Shook — and she delivered a healthy baby girl! Congrats to the happy couple!

Shiri Appleby, 34, is now a proud mom! The Chicago Fire and Girls actress welcomed her first child on March 23 in Los Angeles with her fiancé John Shook, a chef at Los Angeles restaurant Animal. The couple was keeping the gender of their baby a secret, but they were so happy to welcome a healthy baby girl!

“She’s heaven,” Shiri told Us Weekly of her daughter. “I’m beyond thrilled.” She announced the exciting news of her pregnancy in December, which was just five months after getting engaged to her fiancé during a trip to Ventotene, Italy.

The couple wanted to keep their baby’s gender a secret, a decision the actress gushed about during the time of her announcement. “It’s really made the whole pregnancy a heightened excitement because you just don’t know what it’s going to be,” she told Us Weekly.

Even though the couple didn’t know whether they were expecting a boy or a girl, they continued to decorate the nursery regardless. “We got a chandelier, we got a rug and we’re looking for drapes,” she told the magazine. We don’t want it to look too much like a baby’s room. We’re both on the same page about how we want it to look.” Sounds like a super chic nursery!

Congrats to Shiri and Jon! What do YOU think of the couple waiting until the birth to find out the gender of their baby, HollyMoms? Did you find out, or did you wait? Let us know in the comments below!
