The star showed off a little black dress for the occasion, but do you wish she opted for a stellar spring style instead?

Diane Kruger is one we always love to watch on the red carpet, and we’ve enjoyed the slew of stylish ensembles she showed off while promoting her latest role in The Host. While she rarely misses the mark, her latest look at the NYC premiere on March 27 was a bit boring. The 36-year-old star walked the black carpet and practically blended right into the background in her Chanel dress from the Fall 2013 collection.

Diane Kruger ‘The Host’ NYC Premiere Dress — All The Details:

In Diane’s defense, NYC still hasn’t embraced the spring season — but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock color on the carpet! Her LBD featured pearl accents. While the embellishments and the length of the frock are definitely quite flirty, the silhouette was totally lost due to her choice of footwear. When we first saw this dress debut on the runway, it was styled with a pair of leather, over-the-knee boots — but I wish Diane had switched up the look! The star’s suede Christian Louboutin over-the-knee boots were lost beneath the dress, making it look like she was wearing tights.

There’s no denying the fact that over-the-knee boots paired with a mini can look sexy and chic, but it’s all about playing with proportions. Sure, this pairing could have worked had the hemline of the dress been taken up a couple of inches, but honestly, this is a look that’s best reserved for very leggy ladies, like Blake Lively.

Even super stylish stars like Diane should sometimes pass on a trend if it isn’t the best bet for their body type! Personally, I wish Diane opted for an interesting shoe, like she did at The Host LA premiere. It would have broken up the black ensemble and I definitely think her premiere look would have seemed totally different!

The star completed the ensemble, pairing it with Stephen Webster jewels and a Chanel shoulder bag. Keeping her makeup minimal, Diane wore her hair back. The star often owns the minimal look, but with this ensemble it just looks very undone.

What do you think? Was Diane’s latest look rather drab or did you like the dark dress on the stylish star?
