After the shocking elimination of Curtis on the March 14 episode, the top 9 took the stage again to fight for the top spot. But not everyone was happy with their performance.

The fab 9 took the stage to sing songs from the fab four, The Beatles, in front of judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. There were tears among the joy — who took the top spot tonight, HollywoodLifers? Vote below.

First off, the winner of the 11th spot on the Idol tour was Aubrey Cleland, who beat out Charlie Askew.

The Top 9 Sing The Beatles

Kree Harrison sang “With A Little Help From My Friends.” Keith said: “You’re bluesy and soulful and country, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble getting through tonight.” Mariah said: “I thought it was fan-freaking-tastic!”

Burnell Taylor sang “Let It Be.” He didn’t know the song at all! Randy said: “This is the mark of a great singer and a great artist. You made it your own.” Mariah said she was so proud and happy for him.

Somewhat Of A Disconnect

Amber Holbomb sang “She’s Leaving Home.” “It started a little slow for me,” Randy said. She had also never heard the song before this week. Keith said the 46-year-old song sounded “fresh.”

Lazaro Arbos sang “In My Life.” Mariah “commended him on his bravery.” Nicki said she doesn’t know where his confidence went and that he seems super nervous. Randy said it was his worst performance ever. After the performance, he started to cry! So sad!

Back On Track

Candice Glover sang “Come Together.” “I thought that was absolutely killer,” Keith said. “Your voice is crazy! I’m so happy to hear you do an up-tempo! Own it! ” Randy said.

Paul Jolley sang “Eleanor Rigby.” “I did not like your performance Jolly. Very safe, very bland and forgettable,” Nicki said. “I thought you were disconnected from the song,” Randy said.

Angie Miller sang “Yesterday.” Randy said she is one of his favorites. Mariah said she would love to see more of her rock edge. “Unbelievably amazing,” Nicki said.

Devin Velez sang “The Long & Winding Road.” Mariah said, “You never cease to amaze me. It would be a travesty if you did not go through.” Keith said he felt like he lacked emotion, but Nikki said that was cray cray!

Janelle Arthur sang “I Will.” Keith said, “You know you who are. That was really beautiful baby.” Nicki said she looked like “a beautiful swan goddess.” Randy said it was one of the best performances of the night!

Paul Jolley definitely seems like he might be in trouble tonight as the results show is getting ready to air. I really like his vocal ability and he’s got a killer personality but I felt like this song just missed the mark in so many ways. My friend said that she was definitely expecting more out of him and sadly, I agree. His last performance really showed off his chops and this one really was safe and bland. One thing I’ve learned from watching the show is that if it feels effortless then it is probably too safe.
