While most people might be a little scared of Andy, Derek isn’t one of them. The ‘DWTS’ veteran welcomes the eccentric cast of the 16th season, saying the glitz and glam of the show has the power to overcome troubled pasts!
Derek Hough has been on Dancing With The Stars for 10 seasons, now heading into his 11th! He’s looking to take home a fourth Mirrorball trophy with his new partner, Kellie Pickler. The show premieres on March 18, and this years line-up is full of interesting characters, including Olympic gold medalists, comedians, Grammy winners, and a soap star! Among the crew is the troubled Andy Dick, who Derek reveals he’s actually is rooting for!
Derek Hough Supports Andy Dick
When asked about Andy joining the cast during the Lakers Youth Foundation at the LakersCasino Night presented by OneWest Bank and Pechanga Resort & Casino at Nokia Live, Derek told Hollywoodlife.com exclusively, “I am not scared, I always support the wild cards and the underdogs, especially those that are in recovery.”
Derek thinks this could be a huge opportunity for Andy to show how far he’s come. Derek says, “I always support that and I think this is an amazing experience for someone that has gone through something like that to prove to themselves that they can do bigger and better things! To push themselves and overcome, that is what the show is all about! It’s triumphs and failures! It’s kind of like a metaphor for life with glitz and glam and rhinestones!”
Andy Says ‘DWTS’ Is Better Than Rehab
In the past, Andy has struggled with substance abuse and has gone to rehab multiple times. Though he is out now, he still runs stressful situations. He admitted to already having a breakdown on DWTS. The star told Entertainment Tonight, ”I had a breakdown. I just hit a wall. I cried forever. You’re supposed to cry in Episode 4 or 5…but we worked through it. We actually had to have a lunch outside of here and just work through some stuff. [It was] better than therapy. [Sharna] is my new therapist.”
Derek could be right on the money in predicting that the show will help Andy work through his issues. Andy explained to ET, ”I had to change my attitude and my concentration level ’cause when I would get frustrated, I would shut down entirely. That’s where I would hit the bottle in life in the old days. This is better than rehab. This is like thirteen rehabs condensed into one.”
Would you be worried about working with Andy, HollywoodLifers?
