Taylor is infamous for writing revenge songs about her former flames — but what’s her reason behind writing about them?

Taylor Swift, 23, has written some vengeful breakup songs that put a sour taste in our mouth about some of her most dreamy exes like John Mayer and Joe Jonas. But what does Taylor get out of it? Is it revenge or therapy? In a new interview, Taylor reveals her reason behind her sassy songwriting!

“I’ve never thought about songwriting as a weapon,” Taylor explains to Vanity Fair. “I’ve only thought about it as a way to help me get through love and loss and sadness and loneliness and growing up.”

So, how does Taylor come up with those insanely catchy heartbreak songs?

“When I write songs it’s never a conscious decision — it’s an idea that floats down in front of me at four in the morning or in the middle of a conversation or on a tour bus or in a mall or in an airport bathroom,” she says. “I never know when I’m gonna get an idea and I never know what it’s gonna be.”

What Taylor’s Looking For In A Boyfriend

As much as we love Taylor’s vengeful verses, we really want to see her happy in love. Lucky for Taylor, she knows exactly what she wants in a man.

“I think what I would mostly be looking for in a guy,” she explains, “is someone who sees me in my actual dimensions: 23 years old, five-foot-ten.”

“People call her ‘Tay,’ [she] was insecure in middle school.” Taylor explains she wants “a guy who wants to know the stories of who I was before this, and the things that aren’t on my Wikipedia page and the things that didn’t happen on an awards show — a guy who just wants to know the girl.”
