From the runways to the red carpet, crop tops are a major trend for Spring 2013 — and we’re seeing them everywhere we look! Believe it or not, the trend looks fantastic on a slew of figures. Simply read on for tips and SHOP our picks if you’re looking for the perfect way to make the look your own.
Skin is definitely in, both on the runway and the red carpet this season. From strategic cutouts to crop tops and bustier tops, everyone from Miley Cyrus to Selena Gomez, Rihanna and even Kristen Stewart have rocked the trend, although we first saw it on the Spring 2013 runways. From Balenciaga to Charlotte Ronson and Mara Hoffman, designers sent the flirty trend down the runway in a variety of ways. Each star adds their own personal sense of style to the look, working the trend in a way that really flatters their body type. Rihanna, for example, keeps it casual and cool while paying homage to the 90s in a cropped tee and jeans from her River Island collection.
How You Can Wear A Crop Top:
While you may be uneasy about the idea of showing some skin, don’t fret! The trend can actually work quite well on a variety of figures. The most flattering way to rock the look is with a high-waisted skirt, high-waisted shorts or trousers. If you have a straight frame or you’re quite tall like KStew, pants and a crop top are a winning combo. For those of you with a more hour-glass or even pear-shaped frame, an A-line skirt and crop top will allow you to show some skin in a way that really flatters your curves. A cropped jacket can be a great piece of outerwear to pair with this look. Paying careful attention to proportions is key!
The petite Vanessa Hudgens tried the trend in a more formal way, wearing a Katharine Kidd ensemble to a Spring Breakers premiere. Pairing the crop top with a high-waisted skirt that’s a little bit longer balances out the showy ensemble and keeps it classy and chic. Miley also rocked the look this way, wearing her flirty top with a longer striped skirt — it was so polished and perfect!
If you have a smaller chest like Selena, than a bustier top can be a fun way to rock the look — but I would advise girls with bigger chests against trying this out! The whole point of the look is to keep it stylish and chic, you don’t want to spill out in a sloppy way.
If you prefer a more casual ensemble, a basic cropped tee that only reveals a hint of skin looks great with shorts or jeans — and that’s exactly the way RiRi likes to rock the look.
From billowing styles to form-fitting tops, bustiers, halters, long-sleeved ensembles and more, the possibilities are endless — it’s all about finding a style that allows you to enhance your figure in the best way possible!
