T-Swift is responding to her critics — all of them — once and for all. In her newest interview she addresses the accusations that she’s an overbearing, suffocating girlfriend. Keep reading to see how Taylor feels about the “sexist” criticisms.
It’s a story that has been beaten into the ground by now — that Taylor Swift is a clingy girlfriend — and ex-girlfriend — and that her breakup songs make her seem desperate. After hearing this criticism for ages, Taylor is finally responding.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Taylor acknowledges the cartoon character that tabloids have turned her into: “It’s just kind of ridiculous.”
Taylor Swift: Criticisms Are ‘A Little Sexist’
She insists that she’s hardly the stage five clinger she’s made out to be, and even calls the critiques directed at her “a little sexist.”
The breakup songs she writes should be seen as liberating, she says, instead of desperate: “For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated—a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way—that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.”
According to Taylor, her songwriting methods are merely just a form of self-expression and a matter of circumstance. She insists she isn’t some crazy boy-chaser, that her songs are only misconstrued because she’s a cute young female musician.
Taylor Swift & Conor Kennedy: Did She Buy A House Next Door To Him?
But what about the time she bought a house right next door to her ex-boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s family’s house? That sort of sounds clingy, right? “People say that about me, that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like—that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me.”
Though Taylor allegedly DID actually buy the Cape Cod house, Taylor and her team have an explanation for that too. “It was like a house-flip,” Taylor’s authorized source says. “A good short-term investment.”
To be fair, that story checks out — the house was purchased in November 2012 and has already been resold.
So what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Is Taylor clingy, or is everything just blown out of proportion? Let us know!
