Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were the reigning champs of the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss with a whopping four wins for their Twilight movies, but the sexy on and off-screen couple were totally snubbed by the MTV Movie Awards for Breaking Dawn Part 2! A source close to the situation explains to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY why they didn’t get the nomination.

2013 was supposed to be Robsten’s final year to accept the award for Best Kiss for a Twilight film, and they were supposed to finally kiss at the podium — they had previously avoided kissing in public, even when accepting the award — but to many fans’ disappointment, they won’t get that chance this year.

“With the relationship between Kristen and Rob so strained, the people who make the decisions on nominations found it to be very awkward if they had them nominated, because if they won, then it would really put the show in a bad spot when one of them wouldn’t show up to the show,” an insider tells HollywoodLife.com.

“They were told the chances of getting most of the talent would be difficult since Summit doesn’t run their schedules anymore. Everyone wants to move on,” the insider added. ”Summit and MTV knew the nominations scenario before they were announced and were aware of the lack of the nominations that were going to be given, MTV is looking to move the show to the future and not focus on the past.”

While Rob is busy filming his latest movie The Rover in Australia, his relationship with Kristen as been shaky. Another source close to Kristen told HollywoodLife.com the actress isn’t ready to let go of her relationship with Rob — even though he failed to call her during the night of the Oscars when she was a presenter. Their romantic relationship status is still up in the air, even though Kristen still wants to make it work.
