After her tragic suicide on Feb. 17, Mindy has been laid to rest in her hometown of Fort Myers, FL on Feb. 26. So sad.
The family and friends of Mindy McCready said goodbye to the troubled star in a beautiful ceremony on Feb. 26. The funeral took place in 37-year-old Mindy’s hometown of Fort Myers, Fla. in the Cross Roads Baptist church, and her three brothers served as her pall bearers. Read on for all the sad details.
Mindy McCready’s Funeral — All The Details
Mindy, who tragically died on Feb. 17 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, was mourned in her Florida hometown. She died in Arkansas, in the same place the body of her boyfriend David Wilson was found dead in January after he committed suicide.
Friends and family began gathering at 2pm at the church, and a large screen was erected in the church that showed pictures of Mindy in happier times, while country music played in the background, reports NewsPress.com.
Mindy’s funeral was opened to the public by her mother Gayle Inge.
“Mindy’s life was public and the family welcomes friends and fans to join them in a celebration of Mindy’s life,” she said in a statement to USA Today.
What a nice gesture from Mindy’s family.
At the funeral, Mindy’s stepfather Michael Inge sang a song after a prayer for the guests, reports NewsPress.com. Two of her brothers broke down when speaking about growing up with Mindy, and her love of Pac Man.
Gayle then said some touching words about her daughter, and how Mindy will always be her “little girl in a car-seat singing into a hairbrush,” and that she has been healed in Heaven after a “painful struggle.”
“I cannot imagine how we go on from here.” Inge said, as Mindy’s song “Ten Thousand Angels” played.
The service ended with Mindy’s stepfather and mother thanking the church, family, friends and media for coming to the funeral. Mindy’s two children Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9 months, are not believed to have attended.
Mindy’s Friends Not Surprised By Her Death
As HollywoodLife.com previously exclusively reported, friends of the singer were, sadly, not too surprised by the news of her passing. “She has had substance problems for so long and tragedy followed her through the years that we were unfortunately waiting to hear that she passed away through an accidental overdose or something even worse, which is exactly what happened,” one friend told us. “You can expect it in ways, but its still devastating when now it actually happened.”
Beyond the funeral services, a memorial service for Mindy has been organized by her friends and others in the music community. It is tentatively scheduled for March 6 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville.
Our thoughts remain with Mindy’s family and friends, especially her two young children, during this incredibly difficult time.
