A massive 28-car pile-up sent flying debris into a packed crowd at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 23, injuring at least 33 fans, and putting a 14-year-old boy in critical condition. Watch the heart-stopping video.

A shocking video has surfaced, featuring the massive crash at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 23. At least 33 people were injured when cars crashed just yards away from fans, sending debris into the crowd, including a tire! Trust us, the video is not for the faint of heart.

The crash happened during the last lap of the Daytona Nationwide Series COPD300 race as Kyle Larson’s car got catapulted from the crash, flying into the catch fence, which separates the track from tens-of thousands of fans.

Footage filmed by fan Tyler Andersen, 16, shows a tire getting thrown into the crowd, hitting a woman in the audience, and dozens of fans wailing their arms in the air for emergency relief!

“It was like a war zone there,” Terry Huckaby, a fan whose brother was injured, told Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports. “When the car hit, debris went everywhere. Tires flying over our head.”

Tyler Describes His Close Encounter

“I looked over and saw a hole in the fence, and looked behind me and saw a tire, a man under a tire and there were people screaming where’s my kid and the emotion was running high there,” said Tyler.

“The smoke and the debris in front of me, it was nothing like I’ve ever seen before,” he added. “I’ve watched Nascar a lot of times and this is just not supposed to happen.”

President Of The Daytona International Speedway Releases Statement

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with our race fans,” Joie Chitwood, president of the Daytona International Speedway said. “Following the incident, we responded appropriately according to our safety protocols and had emergency medical personnel at the incident immediately.”

The tire did not go thru the fence .The tire went over the fence. The fence worked fine.IT stopped the car from going into the crowd

The tire went through the fence not over it. I have video on my iPhone showing the tire going through not over. I was sitting 50 feet past start finish in the Campbell box

Um perhaps they should rethink how they make those fences. If they are so poorly made that flying tires can go through them then that is a huge problem. The fence needs to be super strong so that debris flying at a high rate of speed cannot break through it.
