Rihanna will release an entire collection of MAC products including lipstick, eyeshadow, brushes and more with new products launching as the year goes on! Ri announced the news on Twitter on Feb. 20, her 25th birthday!
She tweeted, “That’s right baby, I’m a #MACgal now! Get into it, package designed and products created from scratch by yours truly! Thanks to the EPIC team at #MAC for giving me the opportunity to play and share my favorite sh*t with my fans and yours.”
In an exclusive interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Rihanna gushed:
“When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind — for something legit — is MAC. Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to MAC.’ I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”
The first product that will become available will be a red lipstick called RiRi Woo. It will be available in a MAC pop-up shop on May 4th and 5th, when Rihanna’s tour brings her to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Rihanna Talks About Her Artistic Vision
“Being creative is something that I love, so I can put that into different outlets. Music happens to be the first thing that I gravitated to, and now music opens doors to just so many different opportunities, and they all tie in. My makeup looks, my fashion looks…they help me to express myself as an artist. I think it helps people to understand me or my mood, my story.”
After the launch of her lipstick in May, she will release a summer collection, a fall collection and a holiday collection. The holiday collection will be the most extensive with makeup bags, lipsticks, nail polish and more.
Rihanna Makes The Line Approachable For All Women
Rihanna explained that creating her lipstick shade was a challenge because her favorite existing shade, Ruby Woo, is so amazing!
“Working with MAC, it’s difficult to get a red lipstick that beats Ruby Woo, because it works on every skin tone. I had so many different samples to choose from and so many different colors underneath — blue, yellow, orange and pink bases. And I got to pick one that worked, and I tried it on all my friends to make sure it worked on all of our skin tones.”
Rihanna Is Grateful For Her Success
“I never thought I’d be able to create makeup with such a big brand so quickly at such a young age. It’s kind of sick to even say aloud when I think about it,” she tells WWD.
