Bonnaroo’s 2013 Lineup Is Too ‘Old’ — It Needs Younger Performers

The lineup for Bonnaroo 2013 has been announced, and what a huge disappointment! Paul McCartney? Snooze! Find out why I will NOT be attending this year’s event.

Paul McCartney, 70, will perform at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee in June along with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Mumford & Sons, Bjork and Wilco. Aside from Mumford & Sons, who took home a Grammy for Album of the Year, this entire lineup is such a bore! Where are the young performers like Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift? Or how about One Direction

“Top to bottom, this is one of the strongest lineups we have ever had,” Bonnaroo spokesman Jeff Cuellar said in an interview. “Looking at the festival landscape out there … no other American festival has Mumford & Sons, Paul McCartney and Bjork all under one roof.”

I actually feel sorry for Jeff and the festival as a whole if this is one of the “strongest” lineups they’ve ever had. Considering that Bonnaroo is among the top live music gatherings of the year, you would think they’d pick more popular, younger performers to hit the stage.

The lineup also also includes R. Kelly, Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne & St. Vincent, ZZ Top, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Gov’t Mule and Dwight Yoakam. Weird Al, really? I think I was 12-years-old when I last bought an album of his — and he’s 53-years-old. Who knew he still made music.

Bonnaroo should take some inspiration from events such as the iHeart Radio Music Festival. They had acts like Rihanna, Green Day and Taylor Swift. Millions of young fans attended and it was a huge success. Don’t expect any wardrobe malfunctions or racy performances — you know, the fun stuff — this year.

One thing’s for certain — I will not be attending the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival this year. Hopefully, they’ll learn their lesson this year and come up with a much better lineup in 2014.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you agree?

This is exactly why we can’t have nice things every year! Ignant babble from the internet putting pressure on real festival organizers to bring the KISS radio rotation to farm. Keep the ear plugs in AC/superfly! This years lineup is awesome, see you in June!

And really.. You think the “wardrobe malfunctions” is why people go to concerts/festivals???! that is incredible. I just don’t even think we are on the same plane of existence.

Are you a f*cking moron or what? A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME chance to see Paul McCartney vs. TAYLOR SWIFT?? Tom Petty or Rhianna? Was you drunk when you wrote this? There are TONS of up-and-coming acts on the lineup to satisfy new music fans.

This, without a doubt, is one of the dumbest pre-fest reviews in the entire world. Please NEVER come back to Bonnaroo. You are doing those who enjoy REAL music fests a favor.

I don’t think attending a penis festival (if one such thing did exist), would have any relation whatsoever to a terrible taste in music.

This might be the dumbest article ever written. If you think that Kelly Clarkson should play Bonnaroo, you have no idea who really goes.

You must have mistaken Bonnaroo for Bamboozle or iheartradio. The real music festivals (Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lolla, ACL, Outside Lands, etc.) take care to stay away from exactly the sort of pop-culture detritus you seem to love. Rather than focusing on eminently disposable, radio-friendly flashes in the pan, these fests look to fill the linups with music legends, up-and-coming artists, and acts with some sense of critical support.

In closing, you’re awful, and I hope you feel bad that your job is reporting on a third-tier entertainment blog.

Does the name Paul McCartney mean anything to you? You must know absolutely nothing about bonnaroo if you’re suggesting that Rihanna and One direction should play.

You do realize bonaroo is rock bands?
If one direction came out the real Bonaroo crowd would leave.
This isn’t a pop fest.
Most people who go to bonaroo are thrilled about this line up.

Bonnaroo is suppose to be with jam bands, Are you kidding One direction, kelly clarkson, rihanna, You are missing the point of what kind of concert this is.
This isnt suppose to be about mainstream autotune GARBAGE.

Do some research about what bands played bonnaroo in the past.
They are ruining it by commercializing it.

Keep these no talent hacks out of bonnaroo, keep them at the grammys and every other commercialized music even theyve already taken over.

This reads as a huge joke. You have a great sense of humor, Chris.
But for anyone who mistakenly reads this as serious and actually AGREES, Bonnaroo simply wasn’t made for you. Go to iHeart.

Any outdoor camping festival that bills Taylor Swift gets an automatic FAIL.

You obviously don’t know anything about good music. Melanie is right, Bonnaroo fans don’t care about Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift or (for the love of god) One direction. This festival is not for teeny boppers.

This generation of artists today all sound alike the music is all the same after awhile all you want to listen to is 80s 70s 60s as the artists had a sound you could tell one from another and they weren’t so in your face on how they looked and who showed the most skin, these women today are without depth.and the men all look the same, the black artists make my skin crawl and the white guys look like girls with to much make-up trying to act like black guys. Yes there are maybe one or two artists that have great talent now,They live in europe.

The people who go to Bonnaroo typically don’t like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and One Direction…
I live in TN, and trust me, the line up they have this year attracts the type of people they usually expect at the festival.
