Babies may be blessings, but when it comes to TV, they’re also excellent sources for drama! On the Feb. 14 episode of Glee — very appropriate for Valentine’s Day — we learned that a former member of New Directions could be with child, and it got us thinking about some of our other favorite surprise babies. From recently revealed pregnancies — like Alison on Pretty Little Liars and Meredith on Grey’s Anatomy — to baby shockers from decades past, HollywoodLife.com wants to know which announcement(s) left you floored.
Glee isn’t the only teen drama to feature a few surprise pregnancies; some of our favorite nighttime sudsers have been using that TV trope for years, like One Tree Hill, which planted unexpected buns in the ovens of all three leading ladies! Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) got pregnant with Jamie in high school, Peyton (Hilarie Burton) got pregnant with Sawyer while she was engaged, and Brooke (Sophia Bush) found herself carrying twins long after doctors told her she couldn’t get pregnant!
Reality TV has practically turned surprise pregnancies into an art form! Who could forget when Kourtney Kardashian discovered she was pregnant with Mason on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, or when Snooki revealed she was carrying baby Lorenzo on Snooki & JWOWW? And even more recently, Leah Messer learned she’d be welcoming a third addition to her growing family on Teen Mom 2!
Granted, the baby bombshell is hardly a new TV trope. Our list also features several pregnancy shockers from decades past, including Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) on Friends, Sydney (Jennifer Garner) on Alias and Piper (Holly Marie Combs) on Charmed. None of those pregnancies were expected so, needless to say, they were all game-changers for the long-running series.
