The South African model who was shot & allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Olympian Oscar Pistorius, on Feb. 14 will be remembered not only for her stunning beauty, but for her big heart and the indelible marks she made on everyone who knew her.
It has only been hours since Reeva Steenkamp, 30, was allegedly gunned down by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius in his home in Pretoria, South Africa, but friends and family are already speaking out in remembrance of the slain model, who was far more than just a pretty face.
Reeva Steenkamp: ‘The Kindest, Sweetest Human Being’
She was “an angel on Earth,” Reeva’s publicist Sarit Tomlinson told The Associated Press. “She was the kindest, sweetest human being.”
Besides being named one of the sexiest women in the world by FHM and the face of Avon South Africa, Reeva was also an intense advocate against rape and for women’s rights.
On Feb. 6, Anene Booysen, a 17-year-old South African girl, was brutally gang-raped and mutilated in the small town of Bredasdorp. The horrible crime quickly became a source of outrage and protests against South Africa’s culture of sexual violence and abuse, and Reeva joined the protest wholeheartedly.
On Feb. 9, she tweeted, “I woke up in a happy safe home this morning. Not everyone did. Speak out against the rape of individuals.”
And just a day before she was tragically killed, Reeva continued her anti-rape advocacy by retweeting a message from South African singer Lindiwe Suttle: “WEAR BLACK THIS FRIDAY IN SUPPORT AGAINST#RAPE AND WOMAN ABUSE #BLACKFRIDAY.”
The Slain Model Had Beauty & Brains
Reeva was also active in the Johannesburg, South Africa community and was scheduled to speak to students on the afternoon of Feb. 14 ”about empowerment and inspiration and what inspires you and how to follow your dreams,” according to Sarit.
The model described herself with three B’s: “Brainy, blonde, bombshell.” Brainy indeed — Reeva completed her law degree from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and only afterwards began modeling.
“She was definitely destined for success,” Sarit emphasized to BBC.
We’re sad to see such a beautiful, smart woman with a growing career taken from the world so tragically.
