Plus, Alex and Avery compete in a battle of the hot hospital hunks! (No complaints here.)
Alex (Justin Chambers) and Avery (Jesse Williams) were chosen as candidates for hospital ambassador on the Feb. 7 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The opportunity to be the face of Seattle Grace Mercy West spurred a vain competition between the doctors. Plus, some of the doctors put their jobs on the line when they secretly admitted a trauma patient to the hospital!
In order to snap some pictures for publicity, Alex and Avery had their own personal paparazzi following them around the hospital. Initially Alex was hesitant about the attention, but when he saw Avery eating it up he decided to up his game. Even Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) joined in on the competition by bragging about their men to the publicist.
While eating lunch with her new EMT beau Matthew, April (Sarah Drew) decided to accompany him on a call. When she discovered the severity of the child who had been hit by a car, she convinced the doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West to break the rules and bring the patient to their closer shutdown trauma center.
Meanwhile, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) decided to take a road trip to check out a hospital under “Pegasus,” the same program being enacted at Seattle Grace Mercy West. The Chief pretended to be a patient having chest pains to get himself admitted to the hospital. Once inside, the duo snooped around and learned that the staff despises the Pegasus program.
Back at SGMW, Cristina (Sandra Oh), Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Avery, Alex, and Jo all joined April in the shutdown trauma ward to assist with the illegal patient. When Derek went upstairs to get some medicine, he ran into some execs from the Pegasus program there to observe the hospital. With some very careful dodging, the frantic doctors were able to keep their secret and save the boys life. Unfortunately, Alanna (Constance Zimmer) still discovered what the doctors did.
After learning of the horrors of the Pegasus program, the Chief confessed to Callie that it may be time for him to retire. In an effort to avoid the new program, Callie called a secret meeting on the rooftop and told Arizona, Derek, and Meredith that the hospital can only be saved one way — they have to buy it.
