Super Bowl XLVII was delayed for more than 30 minutes when a power outage occurred after the halftime show — and Beyoncé’s electric performance is not to blame!

A lot happened on Feb. 3: The Baltimore Ravens secured a victory over the San Francisco 49ers at the Super Bowl XLVIIBeyonce delivered the most epic halftime show ever — oh, and there was a huge power outage that lasted for 34 minutes! Moments into the third quarter, the New Orleans Superdome was plunged into darkness and players were left standing idle while officials scrambled to sort out the problem.

Super Bowl Black Out — What Caused It?

A joint statement was released from Entergy New Orleans and Superdome operator SMG, which said there was a problem with the stadium’s energy lines.

“A piece of equipment that is designed to monitor electrical load sensed an abnormality in the system,” the statement said, as reported by the New York Times. “Once the issue was detected, the sensing equipment operated as designed and opened a breaker, causing power to be partially cut to the Superdome in order to isolate the issue. … Entergy and SMG will continue to investigate the root cause of the abnormality.”

Wow, that’s a lot of big words! So a minor abnormality caused the power to be cut, which caused a black out at the worst possible time.

“We sincerely apologize for the incident,” Superdome spokesman Eric Eagan said.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu also issued a statement:

“The power outage was an unfortunate moment in what has been an otherwise shining Super Bowl week for the City of New Orleans,” Mitch said. “In the coming days, I expect a full after action report from all parties involved. For us, the Super Bowl isn’t over until the last visitor leaves town, so we’re focused on continuing to show our visitors a good time.”

Fans and celebrities also reacted to the black out.

“I don’t think the Superdome was ready for that jelly…” Modern Family star Sarah Hyland tweeted, referring to the popular song sang by Destiny’s Child at the half time show.

What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Did the power outage disrupt your enjoyment of the game?

This brought back surreal memories of when I was a tourist trapped in the Superdome during Katrina and the floods.

I totally agree with Jenny & Marcus. I thought to myself when the Sandyhook kids were singing that something would be said b/c none of the kids were black and there comes Jennifer Hudson. I thought to myself, “there’s the reason they can get away with that.” It’s sad it comes to that but it’s true. There is always something said if black people are not spotlighted lately.

Forget the power outage…..When did the NFL become racist? I’m just saying…..if there were 3 white women singing instead of 3 black women like there was last night, the race card would be flying everywhere. For heaven’s sake there could never be 3 white men to do the lineup…..that would be insane. I’m just wondering how that could possible and Beyonce could tweet how it was an important night for black women. No white person could get away with saying that.
