An Atlanta middle school student, 14, was hospitalized after being shot in the head outside of Price Middle School. The victim was allegedly shot in the head by a fellow student, and was rushed to nearby Grady Hospital, Atlanta Fire Department Capt. Marian McDaniel says.

The injured student was taken to Grady Hospital “alert, conscious and breathing,” Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos says. He also adds that all other students at the school are safe.

A teacher was also hurt during the incident, but suffered minor cuts and bruises and was treated at the scene, Capt. Marian McDaniel says.

The victim was shot in the head, according to Capt. Marian McDaniel says.

The suspect and the victim are both male students at Price Middle School, and the suspect has been arrested and apprehended. Price Middle School and nearby Carver High School and Slater Elementary School were placed on lockdown. Parents were advised not to arrive at the scene so as to prevent confusion to the area.

Price Middle School Posts Official Statement About Shooting

An Atlanta Public Schools student has suffered a gunshot injury at Price Middle School, and has been transported to Grady Hospital.  Price Middle School has been placed on lockdown and all other students are safe.  A suspect, also a student at Price Middle School, has been apprehended, and is in police custody. This is currently a police matter, and APS security and APD officers are on the scene.  Price students will be dismissed at their regular dismissal time, and buses will run on their normal schedule.”

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed Releases Official Statement On Gun Violence

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed released a statement from his office, detailing his concern about the incident and gun violence:

“Gun violence in and around our schools is simply unconscionable and must end. Too many young people are being harmed and too many families are suffering from unimaginable and unnecessary grief. I pray that the student who was shot today at Price Middle School in southwest Atlanta recovers quickly and can return home to family and friends. A suspect has been taken into custody. I would also like the students, faculty and families of the Price Middle School community to know that they have the full support of the City of Atlanta as they heal and move on from today’s terrible incident. The city’s Employee Assistance Program counselors are already at the school providing guidance for students, faculty and family members.”

Such a tragic situation. We hope the victim has a safe and speedy recovery.
