In the last round of auditions in Oklahoma City, a quirky contestant made it to Hollywood, a superstar was born and a previous judge made a guest appearance…in drag!
The last American Idol auditions of the season brought a barrel of laughs to Oklahoma City with one judge falling out of his seat and another judge dressing up in drag!
The Best Of The Night
Kayden Stephenson, 16, has cystic fibrosis and a life expectancy of 35 years old. He was diagnosed at 18 months old. Nicki Minaj said he reminded her of a baby Michael Jackson and said that she was really inspired by him. Mariah also said he inspired her and wanted to help him make his record right now! “I feel like I’m the luckiest person in the world!” he said once he had his golden ticket.
Auditioned That Wowed The Judges
Karl Skinner was a self proclaimed “ginger” with piercing blue eyes. His “uncomparable” sound got him four yes votes!
Nate Tao is a sign language teacher who was born to two deaf parents. They only signer in his family, he was determined to make it to Hollywood to prove to his parents that he has talent. “I enjoyed it,” Mariah Carey said. “It’s effortless and beautiful,” Keith Urban raved.
The Hilariously Awful
The best medley of the season was rejected (and one great) contestants crying their eyes out to Mariah’s “Emotion!” Loved it.
Anastacia Freeman was horribly tone deaf and could not even stand up in her platform shoes. She claims God spoke to her and told her to come audition for Idol. Mmmkay.
The Strange…But Surprisingly Talented
Halie Hilburn has been a ventriloquist since the age of 9 and did a “duet” audition with her puppet Oscar. She actually was an amazing singer and proved to the judges that she can sing without the puppet. He will not be joining her in Hollywood.
Zoanette Johnson sang the National Anthem to the delight(?) of the judges. Keith actually fell out of his chair during her high note! “Your voice is out of this world,” Nicki said. Definitely one of the most memorable contestants EVER, Zoanette was jumping, stomping and kicking throughout her audition…and she made it through to Hollywood!
Dude Looks Like A Lady
In a surprise ending, previous judge Steven Tyler came out to “audition” in drag — a dress, a wig, the works! He just wanted to say Hi, I guess. Pretty random.

I wouldn’t exactly say that Karl impressed the judges THAT much, but he definitely made an impression enough to get through. He was eager and decent which worked out well for the plaid wearing guitar player. Anastacia WAS tone deaf, but she still wasn’t as bad as Mr. Hung; remember him? I wouldn’t have seen it if I weren’t such a big fan, and I hate to miss an episode. I’m gone a lot for business or working late for DISH, or gone with the kids, etc. Now though, I have a DISH Hopper that has PrimeTime Anytime, which automatically records my shows for me on the four big networks, each night during primetime hours. Thankfully though, my DISH Hopper holds them for 8 days before they are automatically deleted, that way I can watch it when I’m free, which is about the only way I’ll see any TV these days.
