Justin says ‘Be Alright’ was his way of letting Selena know they’d always be together — even when they weren’t.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez may be broken up — for now — but not too long ago, the couple was very much in love. In fact, a new Billboard interview with Justin reveals that Selena was the inspiration behind “Be Alright,” one of the most romantic tracks on 2012′s Believe. “I was overseas, and I was missing my girlfriend and I was just worried about what I was feeling,” he tells the mag.

“I was over mountains, across the sky, just wanted to let her know that everything was going to be all right,” Justin adds.

Justin says the lyrics for “Be Alright” came to him naturally, so you know it was really from the heart.

“That was actually just straight lyrics like a poem, on the plane,” he explains. “When I got there, I told [musical director] Dan [Kanter] what I wanted him to play and he played it. I just made the melody then.”
