After releasing a statement that confirmed Beyonce lip synced at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21, the Marine Corp’s band is now back tracking and saying they do not know whether she sang live or not. Huh?

Beyonce must be feeling the heat, as she has come under fire for lip syncing “The Star Spangled Banner” at President Barack Obama‘s second Inauguration on Jan. 21. HollywoodLife.com confirmed her lip syncing in a statement released from the Marine Corps band, who said that she “decided to go with the pre-recorded music.” One day later, the Marine Corps band is back tracking and saying they are “not in a position” to judge whether her singing was live or pre-recorded. This is getting suspicious!

Beyonce’s Inauguration Singing — Live Or Pre-Recorded?

Beyonce took the stage in front of the president and millions of viewers to sing the National Anthem at the Inauguration on Jan. 21, and the following day she was accused of lip syncing. The Marine Corps band who accompanied the “Single Ladies” singer confirmed that she did, in fact, lip sync, but they later back tracked and claimed they were unaware of any wrong doing in a carefully worded new statement.

“Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance,” Capt. Gregory Wolf, spokesman for the Marine Corps band, said “no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded,” reports the Washington Post.

That’s quite a turnaround from what they originally said!

The Original Statement

HollywoodLife.com spoke to Kristin DuBois, the Public Affairs Chief for the Marine Band, who confirmed that Beyonce lip synced.

“We don’t at all we know why she decided to go with the pre-recorded music,” Kristin told us. “All music [for the Inauguration] is pre-recorded as a matter of course. The Marine Band performed live and we received word at the last minute. Colonel Colborne and Officer Perry were standing right there, and I’m not sure who they were in contact with, but Perry gave the word to go with the pre-recorded track at the last minute.”

“I can say that what is common is every four years someone wants to say someone is lip syncing, and four years ago it was Yo Yo Ma,” continued Kristen. ”He even admitted it and said well yes, it was 25 degrees, a cello can’t make a sound in those conditions. It’s not because she couldn’t sing, something had to have happened that prevented her from doing that. Kelly Clarkson did sing live and the band accompanied her. James Taylor … I don’t know. We are speaking on our behalf. We don’t know why she did it and all we know is what happened. Our role was to perform the National Anthem.”
