How tragic. A 15-year-old boy, Nehemiah Griego, is being accused of shooting and killing his pastor father and family during a bloody rampage on Jan. 19 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Nehemiah Griego allegedly used a military-style assault rifle to kill his pastor father, Gregory Griego, a woman, two girls and one boy on Jan. 19 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Nehemiah was arrested shortly after the rampage. Police found the five victims when they entered the home.

The only victim identified thus far is the alleged shooter’s father, Gregory Griego, a former pastor of the Calvary Albuquerque church.

The church confirmed Gregory’s death to Daily Mail on Jan. 20.

Investigators are currently trying to determine who owned several guns that were found at the home, one of which was a semi-automatic military-style rifle — the murder weapon.

On Jan. 20, Nehemiah was charged with two counts of murder, and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.

According to authorities, each victim was shot multiple times.

This tragedy comes just over a month after Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Sandy Hook tragedy resulted in President Obama’s push last week to ban assault weapons and intensify background checks on those purchasing guns.

This just goes to show no matter how MANY background checks, no matter how many rounds you limit in the Mag, it DOES NOT MATTER!!!….if someone is going to go crazy then they are just going to go crazy!!!!…….Gun Laws DO NOT WORK!!!!!….Focus on your family and show them love and be involved in your kids life, recognize the signs and be proactive….and most of all, LOCK YOUR GUNS!!….Irresponsible gun owners who do not lock up their firearms leave themselves open to these kind of situations!

Prozac and other ssri type drugs should not be used on teens, they were designed for adults and can cause psychotic episodes in teens developing brains. Since everyone of these teen killers was on SSRI drugs when will the fda do something

Was Griego on or had been on antidepressants? Where can I find verification of this?

I would bet that Nehemiah was on or just coming off of a Prozac type drug. These drugs make a mildly depressed or anxious person CRAZY. The drugs open the psyche to demon possession after totally numbing the person’s impulse control. SSRI drugs can be deadly.

dd- have you EVER read the side effects of these type of drugs?? They dont “fix” you they basically lobotomize you and give you suicidal and/or homicidal tendencies. WAKE UP! Lanza, the ‘batman shooter, Columbine killers, VA Tech shooter were ALL on anti-depressants or anti psychotic drugs. (we don’t even know what this kid was on!)

These drugs should never be given to teens. These drugs interfere with normal brain development in teams, and since all the teen killers from Virginia tech, columbine etc were on them there is ample proof.

The drug companies

This is simply horrible. I’m not saying guns should be sold to anyone who walks through the door but stricter gun control is NOT the answer….IMO. Crazy bad people who really want to hurt someone will do it. Next time they will use bombs or knives or who knows what. I wish I had the answer but I don’t. I do know a stricter gun law will not stop this evil from happening again and again, it will just be with a different tool.

My thoughts exactly! However, this is heartbreaking, and reading that he is also being charged with 3 counts of child abuse leading to death….reads to me…3 children. Gut wrenching and my heart goes out to the surviving families and to the innocents that lost their life. However, you are correct…next, it will be knives, which happened in China the same day as Sandy Hook….or mental pipes, chains, baseball bats. Anything can and will be used as a weapon. This will probably get me slammed with hateful replies, but I honestly believe that teachers SHOULD be trained and certified in firearms…and off duty..OR policemen should be stationed at EVERY school. It WILL deter these MONSTERS that are out to harm our children and other innocent bystanders. If a nut enters a place in order to do bodily harm to someone and finds that there is someone that will shoot kneecaps out to drop them, and give as a warning, they may just rethink the actions they wanted to carry out.

People kill people! Stop blaming superficial things. Do forks make people fat? If someone wants someone else dead they can use a knife, hammer, screw driver, run them over with a car, poison them! The list goes on! I have a gun and I have taken gun safety. If an intruder breaks in to my home then what? I wait 10-20 minutes for the police to get here if I have access to a phone quickly?! Self defense! I will use MY gun to save MY life. How about Educating people?

I would rather give Congress an IQ test and give them a drug test (preferably before every vote).

IQ has nothing to do with mental illness and aggravation of stress. We should learn to love again, not just SEXY people, but all people for our own tranquility and peaceof mind.
Guns are not necessary for anyone other than police or soldiers to have, and then, one wonders about some of them.

I see greed, self centeredness, power tripping, and one of the contricuting causes is violent video games and movies.

When two parents in the family, started to have to work to provide a decent living, it bred an imbalance in society’s values. The longer it has gone on, the more and harsher our values change.
To obtain the ourrageous standards set by televisons’ programs, which are unrealistic and
contribute to high levels of stress. We have destroyed our moral standards, our standards of
family inbred values and church ethics.

It is time we said NO to guns, overabundant consumerism and high stress video games and television shows. As a society we need to destress, give our families the security of a resonably safe envirnoment and put our hands out to one another in paeace and acceptance.

Lisa 7, you are by far, a sheep. Jesus christ woman, wake up. This kid was obviously mental. Why did he have a gun, it was illegal for him to have a gun. It’s not a law abiding citizen’s fault this child stole a gun.

“Why did he have a gun, it was illegal for him to have a gun. It’s not a law abiding citizen’s fault this child stole a gun.”
Well, actually, it probably is. If you keep firearms, you should also be obliged to store them in a way that makes them unaccessible to unauthorized people, especially minors. Conversely, if you cannot/will not do this, you should not be allowed to keep firearms.
It’s an excellent question to ask how a 15-year-old could obtain firearms, but the fact that so many minors and otherwise non-eligible folks seem to be able to get their hands rather easily on stockpiles of those things does not seem to penetrate the discussion nearly enough.
It stands to reason that both the prevalence of firearms as well as the casual and negligent way in which they are being stored and handled by their lawful owners is a significant part of the problem.

I know this is very late. But I knew Nehemiah and his family. We were actually pretty close to them and we never thought this would happen. His father owned guns. He used his fathers gun, He had severe depression and things just went down hill. He was raised in a church and will awesome parents and the little girl he shot was practically my baby. It was like losing a baby. Heartbreaking. I do not know what came upon him.
