Anyone could guess that K-Stew feels most comfortable when her hair and makeup is kept as natural as possible. Her makeup artist explains the go-to styles Kristen asks for most — and what she tries to avoid.

Kristen Stewart, 22, is the queen of low maintenance, casual hair and makeup looks. Her effortless style is usually enhanced for red carpet events with just a pop of red lipstick or sultry, smokey eye makeup. Her makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey, even admits to InStyle Magazine that “Kristen will never beg me to do a red lip.” Read on for a breakdown of Kristen’s signature, breezy style!

While bright red lips are a major trend among Hollywood’s hottest starlets — and the style definitely looks great on Kristen — it’s a look that Kristen can do without. Red lipstick amps up an otherwise simple makeup look and delivers glamorous results in a quick and easy way that even Kristen can get behind … if she must. Still, she prefers her natural style. With a natural look like hers, who could blame her? If you love Kstew’s natural lip pic choice, try YSL Rouge Volupté  Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Lingerie Pink

Celebrity Makeup Artist Jillian Dempsey credits Kristen’s amazing flawless complexion for keeping Kristen looking radiant, even makeup-free. “Her skin is porcelain—a dream,” Jillian raves. “She doesn’t like to conceal her freckles, so we do a very sheer application of makeup.”

Even when Kristen is all done up for a fancy red carpet appearance, her makeup still does not feel too stuffy or overdone. “She’d be the perfect face for a campaign for second-day makeup,” says Jillian. “When hers wears off, she still looks insanely gorgeous.” While we would definitely recommend making a habit out of taking off your own makeup before you go to sleep each night, we agree that disheveled and smudgy makeup only enhances Kristen’s rocker-girl vibe.

HollywoodLifers, do YOU love Kristen’s effortless style?

Wow. An HL Intern gets all the way through a Kristen story without mentioning the “staged” cheating scandal. Hey Bonnie Fuller, take notice. Its time to fire all your other idiot editors like Chris Rogers and Chloe Meles and give their jobs to this intern. There are so many other things to write about Kristen than the BS your tabloid regularly covers.

To twilighter, you are so right, finally a nice article about Kristen. Bonnie learn a lesson here, this is what we want to hear. Let the past be gone and move forward.

I love Kristen’s make up low maintenance. I also love the Smokey eye on her. The only thing I’m not too keen on is when she has the Smokey eye and red lipstick together it just always feels like its overkill. I say if you’re going to have a smoky eye you should keep your lips very neutral.

I like the fuller, softer brow she’s been wearing lately. The plucked and pencilled brow she used to wear never looked really “Kristen”. It didn’t look really “Bella”, either.

A word for Jillian Dempsy from a portrait painter: No matter how smokey or glammed up the eye, Kristen’s eyeliner should never, ever go around the inner corner of her eye. That “pulls” the eyes closer together. That might be fine on a girl whose eyes are extremely far apart–say Ashley Green or Amanda Seyfried–but on a girl like Kristen whose eyes are normally spaced, you never want to make the eyes look closer together. Close-together eyes impart a masculine look, because, on average, men’s eyes are closer together than women’s eyes. The dark line around the inner corner also makes the eyes look long and narrow. We narrow our eyes for emotions like suspicion or anger. A narrow eye looks mean. Humans don’t naturally have a dark line all the way around the eye, including the inner corner. Who does? Lions, tigers, cougars, polar bears. The black line all the way around the eye is the eye of a predator–a look we are programmed to fear. Eye liner is meant to mimic the look of dark, luxuriant eyelashes and the shadow they cast. Eyelashes don’t grow around the inner corner of the eye. They thin and diminish as they approach the inner corner and stop before they get there, and that’s what eyeliner should do. That’s the trick to making people think “Beautiful eyes” instead of “Look at that eye makeup!”

One more thing. Kristen showed up at a recent appearance with eyeliner on the INNER edge of the eyelashes–the edge closest to the eye. That’s a no-no. It makes the eye look smaller–obviously the last thing you want to do. Eyeliner should always go on the outer edge of the roots of the lashes.

I am so glad that someone (finally) pointed out this eye FIASCO!! I could not figure out why, they were sending her to all of these appearances with that harsh preditorial look! I specifically am speaking of the eye makeup. When a makeup artist is working with someone that has the kind of natural beauty that Kristen has, I would think that the obvious, would be to accentuate this natural beauty!! Seeing her in front of thousands of people with those eyes totally drove me nuts!!! Kristen’s natural beauty was being hidden! I have always said that Kristen has a beauty that speaks for itself!!! She does not need to be ladened down with tons of makeup, or dressed like a Hollywood clone! Thank you so much for sharing your articulate insight. The red lipsticks, and the very bright pinks need to (GO) too!!
