She is not a Brooklyn native. She lived in Opelika, AL until she was 19 years old. That is her hometown.

They are not always white — in the last few years we’ve seen Caressa Cameron and Ericka Dunlap crowned Miss America, as well as Leila Lopes crowned Miss Universe.

That is absolutely correct. In fact, I had the pleasure of meeting the FIRST BLACK Miss America – Vanessa Williams. She was both beautiful and delightful. In fact, after her demise, she was suceeded by Suzette Charles, who was also Black.

A better question is why was the winner not Latino, Asian, Indian or Muslim – if you want to be politically correct?
