And Lindsay Lohan is not impressed! The Hollywood child star called out Jennifer for dissing acting legend Meryl after collecting her award at the annual Golden Globes on Jan. 13.
Is Jennifer Lawrence getting a little big for her boots? As she accepted the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, she said “I beat Meryl,” referring to her opponent Meryl Streep, who was nominated for her part in Hope Springs. And Hollywood’s biggest trainwreck Lindsay Lohan has called her out for it!
Jennifer Lawrence Disses Meryl Streep
Jennifer is one of the hottest young actresses around — at only 22-years-old she’s been nominated for an Oscar TWICE. On Jan. 10 she received her second Academy Award nomination for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, and if her success at the Golden Globes is anything to go by, she is a shoo in for the win on Feb. 24!
When collecting her Golden Globe from Will Ferrel and Kristen Wiig, Jennifer’s first words were “What does it say? I beat Meryl!”. Was this a diss, or was Jennifer just shocked to have beat the most victorious actress ever? Jennifer may have two Oscar noms, but acting legend Meryl has been nominated a whopping SEVENTEEN times, and has won three times. That is more noms and wins than any other actor in history. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Jennifer!
Somehow I doubt Meryl — who did not attend the ceremony — is crying tears over the diss, as she has eight Golden Globe trophies at home to keep her warm at night. And how many does Jennifer have? Oh yes, just one.
And it looks like Lindsay is not impressed with Jennifer’s diss! She tweeted “Words cannot express how much I LOVE Kristen Wiig. And no1 should ever mess with a legend, such as Meryl Streep.” Take that Jennifer! There is nothing like being taken down by the badass that is Lindsay, who like Meryl, has several Oscars. LOL — I am clearly kidding.
It appears that Jennifer probably was kidding, as she was most likely referring to the 1996 film The First Wives Club, where Bette Midler‘s character Brenda picks up Goldie Hawn‘s character Elise’s award and says the same line about beating Meryl. Poor Meryl just can’t catch a break!
Jennifer Thanks Harvey Weinstein
While not busy dissing Meryl, Jennifer also thanked the film’s producer Harvey Weinstein: “I am so honored to be in a film like this…Harvey thank you for killing whoever you had to kill to get me up here today.”

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Was Jennifer dissing Meryl, or just she surprised she beat her? Was Lindsay right to call her out?

I don’t see any malicious intent w/ her speech actually, since it was I guess a fun night too, everyone was into making jokes around bcos of of course funny, great host so its nothing for me…Jennifer deserves the awards and entitled to say whatever things, speech so long its not really offending to anyone! sometimes the people are the ones who give anything out of totally nothing! and good for lindsay the she’s indeed gives & acknowledge credit to a legend like Meryll, at least we now know she have one good side of her i hope…. :)

Yeah, I wonder who Jennifer payed off to get this award, I’ve seen her movies, she’s nothing special. Jennifer was in poor taste to talk about any other actress, especially Meryl Streep.
Her red dress was ok, but those stupid ruffles made everyone look at her boobs, I know I will get flack for this, but the best Red Gown I have seen to date is the one Kristen Stewart wore at Cannes! It was breathtaking.

Hey there, and I mean no harm as I’m a huge Kristen Stewart fan. However, you don’t help Kristen by dragging her into a thread that is about Jennifer when she is up for the highest awards. I know this thread is not excactly about that but it’s certainly not about who wore a red gown better. I hope you aren’t mad at me for writing this but I’m really hoping to stop some of the hate agains Kristen.

I get the joke, but it was disrespectful. Meryl Streep is very talented. She’s one of the greatest actresses of all time. Kudos to Lindsay Lohan for sticking up for Meryl. Jennifer Lawerence has a lot to learn and she needs to get over herself. If she really respects Meryl, nothing would have been said.

Only in Hollywood would that be considered a diss. She is an up and coming actress who is judging her place by the best in the business and Meryl Streep is considered by the business as one of the best. Why the hell would she not be excited by beating her? And at 22 why is it not surprising she would make that gleeful announcement. She won a major award against “the gold standard.” Hollywood is so weird.

Quoting a movie or not, lame joke or not… it was a diss and it was in bad taste. She should not have done it. As a fan of Meryl Streep I would’ve taken it better or lighter coming from another
veteran actress like Dianne Keaton, Annette Bening or Jodie Foster but from this snotty
girl it came off as being entitled and disrespectful and totally informs us of the Diva she plans to be. Sorry but not feeling her good actress and all.

Sorry, but that is lame. It is nice to see someone actually say something that they feel in one of these borring awards things. Beating Meryl Streep makes the the win real. She won against on of the best. How else is Jennifer Lawrence supposed to measure herself? Against that drunk LL?

I never agree with Lindsey but there is a first time for everything, Jen was kind of arrogant yesterday and even if it was a joke it was done in poor taste on her part, Meryl is a legend and she doesn’t even hold a candle to her yet, I saw silver linings and I have to agree with most people it was a good movie but award winning performance it was not ! Its not just Lohan who thinks this, other sites are aware of this too so complain to everyone else who thought it was in poor taste lol!

i agree with you, i saw Silver Lining too but nothing special or wow about her character/acting.I don’t think Jen law is versatile actress and all her movies just okay. People said she so lucky she won the award because she working with weinstein. you know what i mean working with the powerful people. i know she is joking about meryl but it’s look like she so arrogant and annoying. poor girl.

I think Jennifer Lawrence must be one great actress/actor because honestly, and I have seen at least one of her movies;I was NOT impressed. She certainly is average pretty,’at best’,and would someone please tell me what she has done that is so remarkable. Is she able to convey emotions like our great actors or interpret intellect that she must understand?
Silver Linings….was absolutely a joke. How in the world can Jennifer and her male costar be nominated for such a bad movie.
I am offended by the Academy, feeling the need to ‘dumb down’ and nominate a movie and it’s actors who were offensively ‘corny’. PLEASE don’t insult US!!!!!

Omg. Are we still on about this? This is hilarious. And sad. It’s okay if you guys don’t get the obvious The First Wives reference, but I have no idea why anyone would believe this comment to be offensive. In any way. Meryl Streep is an acting legend so winning an award that she’s been nominated as well is obviously a huge honor. With making this joke Lawrence is actually acknowledging that.
Meryl was probably having the loudest laughter at the remark, spending a quiet night at home with her flu and a tea in her hand.
Sometimes I just don’t understand humans and their logic.

She was complimenting her more than dissing her ! She was clearly surprised to have beaten the unnaturally perfect acting talent that is meryl !!!!!!! Jennifer is brilliant and she deserves to go as far as meryl !!!!!!!!!! I don’t like the way u spoke about her in this article !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And even though everybody knows that Lyndsey isn’t having such a good time right now u shouldn’t speak about her that way!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU r the only one dissing anybody here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
